T. Wymsn. Orchard's attorney by
virtue of appointment by the court,
visited Orchard In the penitentiary
and explained the situation, aud
urged him to make such application
and agree to appear before the par
don board In person. Orchard em
phatically refused to do so. Ho said
that he had committed the crime and
felt that be should pay tbe full pen
alty. "If no one else will make tbe
proper application to the board I
will make It myself. It will be my
duty as Orchard's attorney," said
Mr. Wyman.
Miners Will Quit Work on April 1st,
Indianapolis, Ind., March 31.
The Union miners of the Fields Com
pany will lay down picks and shovels
tomorrow night. Almost 250,000 of
them will stop work In Western
Pennsylvania, Missouri, Iowa, Kan
sas, Arkansna, Texas and probably
Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia,
and Kentucky.
Technically the miners will not go
out on strike, but In reality they
stop work beoause tho operators, ex
