Mrs Otis Krause is reported to be getting along nicely and will soon be able to be about. Mr. Norton, a leading attorney of Orunts rass, was here several times during the last teu days. Mr. and Mrs. Myers, of Central Point, spent Sunday in .Taokcon ville, the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Williamson. Mr. Reynolds, who bad bis foot badly crushed in the Opp mine, several weeks ago, is able to bo out on crutohcs. Thb county clerk has issued marriage license " to Theodore Elliott and Mrs. Ella Cotton; and to Marshal Baldwin and Rose O'Brien. Frank Bellinger received the contract for carrying the mail be tween here and Medford and will run a stage, leaving Medford ' earlier than the train. . Henry Miller, of the firm of Miller. & Davison, has recovered from his recent sickness and is able to resume his work.. : Mrs. Miller has been assisting in the store during Mr. Miller's absence. 1 T. Reynolds died at the family residence, two and one half miles north of here, Sunday evening, need thirty-four years. He will be buried Tuesday at 10 a. m. by the A. 0. U. W.,of which order he was a memfoor. Mrs. A. M. Berry, of Ashland was paying her many friendB here a visit the last of the week. She expects to go east on a visit, and also to take in the St. Louis Fair, Her many friends wish her a pleasant journey. The banquet and entertainment given by the Oregon Chapter, R. A. M., on Thursday night of last week, was one ol the most enjoy able sooial affairs of the season. A Bpeoial train was run from Medford for the accommodation of the guests from that place. The regu lar business of the evening being concluded the invited guests were admitted and the social features of the evening commenced. Mrs. Maria Purkeypile, who has been quite ill for several weeks, is improving. Miss Lulu Beall left for Grants Pass Tuesday evening to pay menus a visit. Mrs. Frank Gregory, of Medford is spending a few days with her mother, Mis. M. Magruder. The ladies of the W. R. C. will give a supper at the city hall St. Patrick's day. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Foster, of Bea gle, visited Mrs. Foster's grand mother, Mrs. Mary Cornish, couple of days, the first of the week. Mrs. Nanoy Frary went to Sa lem Tuesday and delivered Mrs. John Lewis, of Eagle Point, who was adjudged insane, to the asylum authorities. There has been Beveral land buy ers in town the past week looking for homes. The G. A. R. Associa tion has bought three lotB at the corner of Pine and Third streets and are removing tbeir hall there to. They will enlarge it to 40x75 feet, have lodge rooms upstairs and an assembly hall on the lower floor. The city election was held last Monday and the following officers were elected: Trustees, W. C. Leever, W. J. Freeman, C. W. Jeffers, S. C. Minnick, J. H. Down ing and George H. Perkins. Each received an equal number of voteB. The river i6 falling very rapidly, and work on the tailroce is expect - oil lo be commonced soon. Thu power house floor is being rapidly put in and the finishing work will soon be completed. The fish ladder is now completed. It iB twenty feet wide and extends from the end of the cut at the power house to the river. A net will be put across the river just above the outlet from the fish-way. The wind waB something fierce in this section last week, and on account of it the olub house suffer ed quite severely. A section of the porch roofing was torn loose and blown over the top of the house, aocidently knocking the top off the double fireplace flue,' and 4anded on the Bide hill above the house. f PURELY PERSONAL, W. Wilson, of New Rockfoid, North Dakota, have been In Medford for sev eral days, looking over the city with a view to locating. Rev. H. 0, Brown left Monda morn- ing for Myrtle oreek where, for ten dayB, he will assiBt in revival services, which arc being conducted there by the resident paster. ChilsKeegan, of Jacksonville, who has been in Portlaud for several weeks, for the purpose of having his eyes treated, returned home Tuesday. Ho was accompanied by his sister, Mies Anna, C. R. Welch and family left the first of this week for Baker City, Oregon, where they will locate. C. R. and E M. Welch have purchased the 6tock of the Queen City Furniture Co., at that place. Miss Olga Hewett, daughter of Judge Hewett, and Miss Gracie Payne, both of Silem, were in Medford Monday upon a visit to Mr. and MrB. E. E. Gore. They were en route home from a visit to San Francisco. Both these young ladies were former schoolmates and pupilB of Mrs. Gore. George Hall was up from Kanes creek Monday. He reports that his mining property, on the South fork of Kanes creek, has proven itself well worthy of his efforts and that his clean. up has been wholly satisfactory. He has bad plenty of water and has made good uBe of it. Aloozo Slover, the drayman, left Sunday for Henderson, Oklahoma, at which place bis father resides. Mr. Slover's departure at this time was cauBed by a message announcing the serious illness of Mb father. Mr. Slover will visit several points of interest in California, Texas and other states be- fore be returns. M. F. Dcrting and family, of Golden. Bale, Washington, arrived in Medford last Saturday and will make this place their future home. Mr. Deriing is the gentleman who recently purchased the D. G. Karnes tract of land west of Med ford. Miss Bessie Currln, who haB been a oomposltor in The: Mail office since laBl June, has resigned her position and on Monday of this week commenc ed leaching school in the Sleppy dis trict, near Talent. Miss Currin is a most exemplary young lady; was faith ful In every partioular as a printer, and having had considerable experience afl a Bchool teacher, in California, carrying a high grade diploma, the 8ohools of Jackson county will p. oGt by her determination to "switch" from printing to her old vocation. N. S. Bennett returned Sunday from a two weeks' trip to Klamath county. He spent a good part of his time in the Wood River valley where the snow was from two to three and a half feet deep, but he provided himself with snow shoes and succeeded in ?e:urlng several line views of that pict uresque country. He was not, however, fo tunate in getting views of Crater lakr, as there waa a etorm on every day during his five days' stay near the lake. The winter, Mr. Bennett says, has been rather severe on Btook on account of the deep snow, but there seems to be sufficient feed to prevent any great amount of )068.
