She will re main in the city Frank Smith left Medford Wednes day, on his wheel, for Philadelphia, Penn. He proposes making the entire distance on the wheel. F. D. Wagner, of the Ashland Tid ings, was at Jacksonville Saturday, in attendance upon the Democratic con' ventlon and mingling with his Demo cratic friends. 8. H. Holt left Monday evening for Portland, where he will remain a few days, after whloh ho will go to Cinoin nati as a delegate to the People's Party National Convention Mrs. Alioe Rosenbautn, of Wolf oreek, add her mother, Mrs. M. J. Hosmer, of Foot creek, were visiting in Medford Sunday and Monday, the guests of Mrs. G. W. Isaacs and daughter, Miss Mae. Joha Barker and family came over from Fort Klamath last week and will reside hereabout"- for" several months t least. Mr. Barker has been opera ting a shingle mill during the past winter. D. T. Lawton started out Tuesday morning as traveling salesman for the Mitchell, Lewis A Staver Company. He will go as far south as Marysvilte, and will cover all the territory north from there to Medford. ' Walter Lipplocott oame home Satur day for a few days' visit with his par ents, returning Wednesday evening. He is with a gang of workmen on the Southern Paoifio who are replaoiog the rails now In use with heavier ones. Mrs. H. L. Mumford and children ar rived In Medford Tuesday evening from San Franolsoo, where tbey have been pending the winter. Mrs. Mumford will remain during the summer with her parents, Capt. and Mrs. Win. Car roll. J. L. Wigle returned Sunday evening from his winter's stay in the Willamette valley. Mr. Wigle will make Southern Oregon his home for some time, and will follow the vocition of book agent, he having secured the agency for sev eral valuable books. MerobantF. K. Deuel left Tuesday morning for Los Angeles, Calif., from which place he will move the remains of his mother to Chlllicothe, Missouri, where they will . be permanently In terred. Mr. Deuel expects to be ab sent about six weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Brown, of Co lumbia City, Indiana, arrived in Med ford Sunday evening and will make this valley their future abiding place. Mr. Brown Is a brother of Mrs. J. T. C. Nash, of this olty, -and of John J. Brown, of Central Point. F. M. Centers, of Wellen, was in the city Wednesday. On Tuesday of this week ho shot and killed a wild cat that measured fully four ftot In length. The county pays a bounty of $2.50 for wild oat scalps and the pelt sold for fifty cents giving him good pay for the powder burned. Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Higinbotham were down from tbelr home in the Big Butte country, near Derby, the Srst of the week, having dental work done and doing some trading. They have moved on to a new ranch which they will Improve and put under cultivation at once, It being Mr. Higlnbotbam's intention to plant a large orchard. Mrs. Jos. H. Kay and three children, auii Mrs. H. Mr. Donton has 800 acres of land In Washington from which ho takes about 1000 tons of hay each year, and (or whloh he gets from 94.60 to 18 per ton. Coroner, Selection of a county central committee. Repeal adopted. A committee of three, representing the fuslocists ol the oounty, and con sisting of J. W. Marksberry, J. S. Mo calu and W. E. Anderson, appeared be fore tbe convention and asked that a conference committee of three be ap pointed by the convention to confer with tbem upon matters appertaining to the nominating ol officers. The con vention appointed as suoh committee Jas. Hilev, H. Mann and T. E. Nlohols. Thirtv minutes recess was taken. Conference committee reported that fusion populists conoede tbe county judge to the democrats and asked that eood ticket be put up, and mat lurtber the populists wanted representation on the ticket. A debate followed, at the olose of which the report was adopted. J. JNunan ana jonn uiwoii were ap pointed tellers. J. K. Nell ana Unas, frlm were placed In nomination for county judge. Nell received 18 votes; Prim, 27. w. H. Brunk was nominated for sheriff by acclamation. Li Li. Jacobs and Fred rurry were nominated for connty clerk. The bal lots gave Jacobs 29; Furry, 20. W. O. Marks was nominated by accla mation for oounty recorder. Martin McDonougb was nominated by acclamation for assessor. L. A. Stockl-g and K. K. Kubli were named for school superintendent. Stocking received 85 votes; Kubli, 13. G. P. Lindley for commissioner, L. S. Trefren for surveyor, J. H. Gay (or treasurer, and J. E. Shearer for coroner, were nominated by acolamatlon. For representatives, J. Beeman and J. L. Bachelor were nominated by acolamatlon. City Council Proceedings. The olty oounoll met in regular ses sion Tuesday evening of this week with a full board. A bicycle remonstrance, to the petition handed in at the April meet ing was upon motion laid on the table until the next meeting. The petition asked that bloyole riding be prohibited on all sidewalks of the olty. The re monstrance asks that the bloyole or dance remain as It now stands. Petition of W. S. Jones and others asking for an extension of eleotrlo light system to East Medford was laid on the table until next meeting. Upon motion tbe recorder was plaoed on a salary of $33.83 per month, be to do all coll ectlng, keep record and to conduct all business in recorder's oourt. Upon motion J. R. Erford was al lowed JS10 per month for superintend ing the Eleotrlot Light plant. Surveyor was instructed to establish grades for grading D and E streets from Third to Seventh.
