White' head was noiselessly moving among the buslnoss men of the town and from them aocopting a willing and vory gen erous donation of money for the pur ohase of an elegant easy office chair for Mr. Llpplncott. His schomo worked out splendidly and two o'clock lost Sat urday was the hour agreed upon for tho presentation. A little boforo that hour Hotel Nash corner was filled with townspeople and at a given signal the crowd proceeded to tbo old depot with the now chair. The chair was taken inside nnd Mr. Llpplncott, who was wholly In Ignorance of the Intended procedure, was taken up bodily and placed in the chair, whon an half dozen or more citizens gathered up the ohalr with Mr. L. In it, and raising it high in air proceeded to the office of the now depot, whore the chair was pro sentod to Mr. Lippineottby Mr. White bead with the compliment of the oltl zons of Medford, who had takon this mothod of expressing their esteem for him as the proflolent and always oblig Ing agont of the S. Hamilton and Rufus Cox had filod articles of incorporation the object of the corporation being the construction of the Little Butte-Med- ford Irrigating canal. Some people will not understand how It happens that Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Cox are mixed into tbe doal, tt having been supposed that all Interested financially in the canal were California parties. The laws of Oregon requires tbat a majority of Incorporators In all enter prises shall be residents of the state. Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Cox are stock holders in the canal project, but only in a small waj , and wholly for the pur pose of Incorporation. Ed.
