have agreed to let this be their last
letter in the controversy, so that The
Mail has concluded to admit a re

We believe no fair-minded person
has reason for finding fault with
the course taken in this matter.
While we would like to accede to
any further requests for space, we
have neither the time nor can we

side-tracked and the free silver

gress will have more spare moments

petitors before such purchase or com
bination, should be prima facie

Charles Christy, an enthusiastic Cuban na-

Mrs. Mary Davidson, who has
been figured prominently in a San
Fracisco church scandal, has been
arraigned in the superior court on
the charge of extortion of $500 from
Dr. Brown.
The so-called May brick commit
tee has presented an exhaustive re
view of the case, including many
new and important features, to the
home secretary at London for his
consideration.

Arrangements are being made to

Cincinnati has a scandal in which
young lady betrayed was mur

who have wretchedly thrown down

Emperor William, while riding in

Chicago druggists have formed a
syndicate to fight the manufacturers

The people of Egypt are satisfied

A number of the leading accident
insurance companies have pro
nounced their ultimatum in the
matter of bicycle riding, have de
clared it a hazardous occupation
and will even up matters by charg
ing heavier premiums or reducing
the amount of weekly accident or

The governor of the Mexican
state of Chihuahua has placed
guards over Fitzsimmons and other
prize-fighters who are quartered on
that side of the border, and notified
the pugilists that they are not to
leave their quarters without per
mission and the company of an at
tendant. Madrid dispatches say that
Campos, since the recent demon
strations at the Spanish capital,
has declined to assume the presi
dency of the supreme council of
war. to which he has been appointed
and has signified his purpose of
leaving the country, having, be says,
to accompany an invalid son who
goes to Germany to recuperate his
health.
The Washington correspondent
to the New York World claims to
have discovered that bids were
opened at the treasury department
several hours before the time for re
ceiving bids had expired, and that
the Morgan syndicate gat such tips
as enabled them to fix up the
proper fractions on the bid which
they put in only a few moments
ahead of the fixed hour.
