SUBSCRIPTION $1.53 PER YEAR IN ADVANCE. Entere-1 in ttio Postofllce at Medford, Oregon as Second-Class Mail Matter. Medford, Friday, Apil6, 1894. The semi-annual exhibit of the financial condition of Jackson coun ty appears elsewhere in this issue f The Mail. Motiox for a new trial in the Bloomer case was argued before Judge Hanna Tuesday and taken under advisement bv the court. Medford, as a. blooming city, cannot he likened unto any thing more appropriate than the rose, ex cept that our city not only blooms in the spring-lime, but the year 'round. The Coxey army began the tri umphal march to Washington with fibout seventy to answer roll call. By the time the heroes composing the noble band have been sampled by all the farmers' dogs along the foute, and introduced to the various police judges, they will be ready to declare the war ended. In- view of the fact that The Mail is independent in -political matters its publishers are now gathering together all the spare f pace in its columns with a view to the possible donation of a given Amount of it for the use of each of the three political parties of Jack eon county until after the June election. This is what the Fargo (North Dakota) Republican thinks of the Chinamen: "There are over 75, JOOO Chinamen in California. That tact, of itself, is a serious check to the prosperity f the golden state. Better North Dakota with forty cent wheat than California with Jier mines, vineyards and rat-eating moon-eyed Celestials. The wheels of progress are mak- - ng many rapid turns in Medtora this spring. The customary spirit cf hustle is being imbued with new vigor each day and the old with the new forms a combination that is peaching well out into the ranks of prosperity and push. If the city of Medford i3 not shaping herself for a rm grasp to the title pf the Hub .city of the great Rogue river valley then appearances are very deceiv ing. ECHOES FRO.H THE STREET. Jtt -tt""i,. art t i u 1 H. Wilson: "If I haven t sold my farm then I am net positive as. to what constitutes a sale. Perhaps other peo ple know more about the matter than I do and perhaps iney don't.'5 R. T. Lawton: "See thai sign? No, that isn't Climax. That's another sign, but this is one I'm going to put up over my real estate oEce. I expect to do a little business while the other fellows tre doing whole heaps of it." L. M. Lyon: "I have secured the iiontract for doing all wood work oa the McAndrews new brick building. Mr. Childers will finish the brick and will jio all mason work. Understand work will commeace upon the building now very soon." Wm. Ulrich: T shipped a carload of hogs to Cosey's army Wednesday. That's where I'm telling the boys I am shipping them but it is doubtful if Coxey and his army can afford luxuries like unto the quality of pork I ship. I shipped the hogs to Sacramento where I expect to realize a good figure, a3 they are a prime article." Gabe Plymale: "That item in last week's Record to the effect that yours truly was a Benedict ia wholly erron eous. When this rumor develops into a certainty you will see me out with .Cigars for all the boys, and THE MAIL will get a whole box that will be the indicator. Keep your eye on it and print nothing until you get the 'tip.' ?' A. Z- Sears: '"John Perdue and my self returned the first of the week from a placer prospecting tour over in the Applegate country. We found the water too high to make the trip entire ly satisfactory: however, we each locat " pd a claim on Little Applegate. There pre good diggings above and below us nnd the'ground we have located ought Jo be good. We will go over again in May." Tayler the Foot Fitter: "Increase jny ad to double its size. Mine is the pnly exclusive shoe shop in Medford find it ought to be better represented; besides the ad pays me good money. Lot me cite in evidence tho big- run I had when my ten per cent discount eale was offered. A few lines in The Iaii told everybody what I was doing pud the result was big sales.
