ELGIN, SUMPTER — A chance to see
Eastern Oregon landscapes from the
windows of a train continues this sum-
mer with the Eagle Cap Excursion Train
and Sumpter Valley Railroad.
Here’s a look at the special events
coming up with each organization.
EAGLE CAP EXCURSION TRAIN
Although some rides are selling out,
there are still plenty of opportunities to
hop aboard the Eagle Cap Excursion

The Excursion Train takes a break in
August due to wildfi re risk, but now is the
time to plan ahead for fall, when the train
starts up on Sept. 3 with a train robbery
by the High Country Outlaws. That train
leaves Elgin at 10 a.m. and returns at 2

The Eagle Cap Excursion Train out of Elgin takes August off , then resumes Sept. 3 with
two months full of rides.

$75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages
3-16.
Other rides are scheduled for Sep-
tember and October, which leads into
the season for fall color in Eastern
Oregon.
Sept. 10 and 17 are the Two Rivers ex-
cursion, which follows the Grande Ronde
River to Rondowa and up the Wallowa
River. The train leaves Elgin at 10 a.m.
and returns by about 1:30 p.m. Cost is
$75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages
3-16.
A special Alpen Train is set for Sept.
21 in conjunction with Oregon’s Alpen-
fest, which happens in Joseph Sept. 29-
Oct. 2. This train will feature Bavarian
