Magazine ELGIN, SUMPTER — A chance to see Eastern Oregon landscapes from the windows of a train continues this sum- mer with the Eagle Cap Excursion Train and Sumpter Valley Railroad. Here’s a look at the special events coming up with each organization. The Excursion Train takes a break in August due to wildfi re risk, but now is the time to plan ahead for fall, when the train starts up on Sept. 3 with a train robbery by the High Country Outlaws. Cost is $75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages 3-16. Other rides are scheduled for Sep- tember and October, which leads into the season for fall color in Eastern Oregon. Sept. 10 and 17 are the Two Rivers ex- cursion, which follows the Grande Ronde River to Rondowa and up the Wallowa River. The train leaves Elgin at 10 a.m. and returns by about 1:30 p.m. Cost is $75 adults, $70 seniors and $35 for ages 3-16. A special Alpen Train is set for Sept. 21 in conjunction with Oregon’s Alpen- fest, which happens in Joseph Sept. 29- Oct. 2.
