Imogene “Imie” (Bates) Bristow
October 2, 1930 - June 17, 2022
On June 17, 2022, Imogene
Bristow, 91, also known to family
and friends as Imie or Grandma
Imie, passed away peacefully at
her residence of 69 years in Cove,
Oregon, surrounded by family.
At her request, there will not be a
service but later this summer there
will be a picnic at Rock Springs
Lookout.
Imie was born Oct. 2, 1930, to Cecil and Maude
(Alexander) Bates on the family’s farm up High Valley
outside of Union, Oregon. She joined an older brother,
Floyd.
Imie attended elementary school in High Valley and
high school in Cove, graduating in 1948. Her senior
year, she received a four-year scholarship to attend
Eastern Oregon to study sports education but turned
it down to pursue her passion in nursing. She was
accepted and earned her R.N. degree at Good Samaritan
Hospital in Portland.
After graduating in 1951, she returned to Union
County to begin her nursing career in the old Grand
Ronde Hospital building, working nights and living on
the fourth floor of the hospital. She was also involved in
planning the new hospital, helping to design the nursing
stations and operating room. She held several different
positions at GRH from the operating room to director
of nursing, house supervisor, infection control and
employee health and housekeeping.
On Jan. 5, 1952, Imie married Wayne Bristow. They
welcomed their first daughter, Cheryl, on Oct. 7, 1952,
and their second daughter, Becky, on March 17, 1956.
She was the Cove 4-H leader for 14 years, then she and
her husband started the Cove Wrangler Rodeo Club,
competing in rodeos in Union, La Grande and Elgin. If
they were short riders for a rodeo, she would fill in. She
also trained and showed Welsh ponies professionally.
Imie also had a passion for bowling. She was on several
different bowling leagues for 20 years, traveling to
other states to compete.
In 2014, she was chosen as the Cove Cherry Festival
Grand Marshal with her best friend and first cousin,
Cecil Puckett, and in 2017, they were chosen as the
EOLS Grand Marshals.
She is survived by her daughters and their spouses,
Cheryl Locken (Dan) of Cove and Becky Turner (David)
of Cove; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
multiple nieces and nephews; and numerous others who
referred to her as “Grandma Imie” or those that she was
a second mother to.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne,
in 1997 after 45 years of marriage; father, Cecil; mother,
Maude; brother, Floyd; sister-in-law, Wilmerth; and
her best friend/first cousin and partner in crime, Cecil
Puckett.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to
Cove Senior Meals, 69682 Wapiti Lane, Cove, OR

Scott Bohnenkamp
June 16, 1952 - June 18, 2022
Scott George Bohnenkamp was the
oldest of two sons born to George and
Betty (Rogers) Bohnenkamp on June
16, 1952, in La Grande.
Scott spent his life in the woods and
took great pride in being an accom-
plished logger, machine operator, me-
chanic, and auto body man. He was also
an avid hunter and fisherman who spent many years
logging with his son Mike. The two stayed in regular
contact throughout the years and Mike went to every
effort to protect and help his father until the very end.
Scott’s biggest love was perhaps his many dogs
through the years which were close to his thoughts and
heart in the confusion of the last few months of his life.
Scott leaves behind his mother, son Mike, six grand-
children, two great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog,
Dummy.
Scott did not want a funeral, so instead his son will
return him to the woods in a private memorial and those
who wish to honor his life can raise a glass in his name.
The family would like to express our gratitude to
Brandon Tanzey for his selfless efforts throughout this
ordeal.

Donna Josephine (Walenta) Fitzgerald
January 5, 1931 - June 27, 2022
Donna Jo Fitzgerald, 91, of
Nampa, Idaho, and formerly of
La Grande, Oregon, passed away
on June 27, 2022, in Nampa. She
was born Jan. 5, 1931, in Colfax,
Washington, the second child of
Thomas Rex and Carol (Olsen)
Walenta. Donna Jo spent her
childhood, elementary and junior
high school years in Minneapolis,
Minnesota, and Denver, Colorado, while her father
completed his doctorate and practiced law. Her family
ultimately moved to Moscow, Idaho, where her father
taught at the University of Idaho School of Law, and she
completed high school in 1948 at Moscow High, where
her mother taught.
Donna Jo attended the University of Idaho, receiving
her BS degree in business education in 1952, followed
by her master’s degree in education in 1955. After
graduation, she taught in the Business Department at
La Grande High School in La Grande, Oregon. It was
there she met the love of her life, Roesch A. Fitzgerald,
whom she married on Oct. 15, 1955. They made
their home in La Grande where they raised their four
children and were active in a number of civic and social
organizations, while also managing family businesses
including the Sacajawea Hotel and Annex and various
commercial properties. Ultimately, her home and
family were her greatest joy and priority, supporting any
number of school activities and as an avid cheerleader
for her children and their accomplishments over the
years.
As an active member of Our Lady of the Valley
Catholic Church in La Grande, Oregon, and St. Paul’s
Catholic Church in Nampa, Idaho, her faith was her
bedrock, and Donna Jo shared her talent and time
belonging to the Altar Society, St. Monica’s Circle and
the Catholic Women’s League. She also taught religious
education for many years and assisted the Finance
Council and the Scholarship Committee as needed.
Donna Jo was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma
Sorority; PEO Chapter N, Nampa, and was a past
president of Chapter CO, La Grande, and Chapter AB,
Mosco; and the La Grande Country Club. She took
a special interest in civic affairs, supporting Roesch
through his terms as city councilor and mayor.Donna
Jo’s smile and laugh would light up the room, especially
when she was playing bridge. She belonged to several
bridge and birthday groups over the years with special
friends. Her whimsical quips and lighthearted witticisms
were infectious, and she laughed as much as she loved.
After Roesch’s passing in 1990, Donna Jo moved to
Nampa to be closer to family.
Preceding Donna Jo in death are her husband,
Roesch; son, Thomas; sister and brother-in-law, Nancy
(Walenta) and Wayne C. MacGregor; Roesch’s sister
and brother-in-law, Nancy (Fitzgerald) and Thomas
Stack; niece, Nancy Claire Stack Chapman; and
nephew-in-law, Dean Diffin.
Surviving Donna Jo are her daughter, Ann (Brian)
Jones, and son, Bill Fitzgerald, of Nampa; son, Paul
(Kayann) Fitzgerald, and granddaughters, Joelle
and Claire of Bellevue, Washington; and nieces and
nephews, Shawnna MacGregor (Jimmie Brown), Molly
(Roger) Cole, Bridget Baker, Kirk (Beth) MacGregor,
Cathleen (Jon) Irby, Leslie Diffin, Jill (Tom) Wimberly,
Dan Stack, Monica (John) Suryan, Art Chapman and
John Stack and their families.
A viewing will be held July 6, 2022, from 5-6 p.m.
followed by a recitation of the Rosary at Nampa Funeral
Home, Yraguen Chapel, 415 12th Ave. S., Nampa. A
funeral Mass will begin at 11 a.m. on July 7, 2022, at
St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 510 W. Roosevelt Ave.,
Nampa. A Christian burial will be held in La Grande,
Oregon, at Hillcrest East Cemetery, 600 S. 12th St., at 1
p.m. on July 8, 2022. An online guest book is available
at www.nampafuneralhome.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to
St. Paul’s School, PEO Chapter N or Chapter CO
scholarships, or a charity of your choice.
