John D. Atwood, 73, of Island City, died May 17,
2022. A celebration of his life will be held May 25 at
10 a.m. at the La Grande American Legion. Casual
dress is preferred by the family. Arrangements are by
Loveland Funeral Chapel & Crematory, La Grande.
Frank and Jewelldene Beickel are celebrating their 80th
birthdays, and their children would like you to celebrate
with them. Family and friends are invited to a cake recep-
tion — in honor of their lives well lived — on Saturday,
May 28, from 2-4 p.m. at the Summerville Baptist Church.

Wallowa Valley Music Alli-
ance’s unique spring fund-
raiser — the 10th annual
Hootenanny and Shoo-fl y
Pie Social — is this Sunday,
May 22, at the Enterprise
Odd Fellows Hall, from
4-9 p.m.
The theme of this year’s
event is “Rivers,” with an
all-star cast of local per-
formers presenting songs
about rivers in a variety of
musical styles. Performers
featured at the Hoote-
nanny include The Burns
Family, Jesse Borgerding,
Janis Carper, Larry Haney,
Ted Hays, Jennifer Hobbs,
The Local Yokels, Carolyn
Lochert, Heidi Muller and
Bob Webb, Nick Porter,
John Raines, The Sam-
ples Family, Trilby Shirley
and Laura Skovlin. This
Marjorie ‘Margie’ Harris
Formerly of La Grande
Marjorie “Margie” Harris, 95, formerly of La
Grande, died Jan. 14, 2022, at home in Richland, Wash-
ington. A memorial service will be held May 28 at
2 p.m. at Pine Valley Presbyterian Church, Halfway.
Arrangements are by Tami’s Pine Valley Funeral Home
& Cremation Services, Halfway.
JJ Bond and Jack Bond
Formerly of La Grande
A joint memorial service for Jerrie Jean “JJ” (Has-
sell) Bond and Jack Hudson Bond, formerly of La
Grande, will be held May 30, 2022, at 11 a.m. at 11206
McAlister Road, Island City. JJ Bond, 83, died April
5, 2020, in Star, Idaho. Her husband, Jack Bond, 88,
died May 3, 2022, also in Star, Idaho. The service will
be livestreamed (email lparsons01@gmail.com for the
link). They will be interred May 31 at 9 a.m. at Mt.
Hope Cemetery, Baker City.

Street and T Avenue on a report
of suspicious circumstances.
Offi cers determined a parent
was attempting to locate their
child.
8:06 a.m. — A guest at
Orchard Motel, 2206 Adams
Ave., La Grande, asked to speak
to police regarding harassment.
An offi cer made contact and
explained options.
9:58 a.m. — A caller made a
complaint about barking dogs
on the 400 block of Third Street,
La Grande. An animal enforce-
ment offi cer made contact and
took information.
12:34 p.m. — A La Grande
parking enforcement offi cer
responded to a complaint on
Fourth Street and N Avenue and
issued a warning.
3:19 p.m. — La Grande
police responded to the 3100
block of Walnut Street on a
complaint about vandalism and
logged information.
7:49 p.m. — A caller
reported criminal mischief to a
vehicle on the 10400 block of
South Valley Avenue, La Grande.
A Union County sheriff ’s deputy
responded and took a report.
9:31 p.m. — Union County
sheriff ’s deputies responded to
the 400 block of F Street, North
Powder, on a report of a distur-
bance between a boyfriend and
girlfriend. The parties separated.
THURSDAY, MAY 19
2:55 a.m. — La Grande
police
responded
to
Benchwarmer’s Pub & Grill on
a noise complaint. The subjects
agreed to keep it down.
9:56: a.m. — A caller
reported a disabled vehicle at
Monroe Avenue and Fir Street,
La Grande. Offi cers responded
and helped move the vehicle.
12:33 p.m. — A caller on the
67600 block of Mitchek Lane,
Elgin, reported a possible wolf
depredation. A Union County
sheriff ’s deputy and animal
enforcement offi cer responded
and took a report.
2:07 p.m. — A resident of
Green Tree Apartments, 2310
Q Ave., La Grande, reported
harassment. An offi cer made
contact and gave options
regarding criminal charges.
2:46 p.m. — La Grande

Dorian “Dorn” Denny Cox
October 13, 1939 – May 16, 2022
Dorian “Dorn” Denny Cox, of
Union, passed away on Monday,
May 16, 2022, at Grande Ronde
Hospital. A graveside service will
be planned for the end of summer.
Dorian was born on Oct. 13,
1939, in La Grande, Oregon,
to Noy and Rena (Denny)
Cox. He resided in Union,
Oregon; Anchorage, Alaska;
and Sacrament, California. He
graduated from Union High School. He married his true
love, Georgia Ann Olmstead.
Dorian was employed with Wonder Bread in
Sacramento, California, and Anchorage, Alaska, before
becoming the director of public works in Union,
Oregon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping in
his spare time.
Dorian is survived by his wife, Georgia; children,
David Cox and Chris Cox, both of California; sister,
Wanda (Tork) Ballard of Baker City, Oregon; brothers,
Tom (Peggy) Cox of Roseburg, Oregon, and John
(Judy) Cox of Richland, Washington; one grandson,
David Cox; and one great-grandson, Alexander Cox.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noy and Rena
Cox.
