In her own words, she wants all of her acquaintances and dear friends to know that if you are reading this, she no longer poses a threat. Pat was born in Baker City, Oregon, on June 17, 1944. After attending and graduating from Saint Francis De Sales Academy, Pat commuted daily to Eastern Oregon College in La Grande, Oregon, where she completed a degree in Biology. She then attended Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, where she devoted herself to studying, conducting research, and earning a Doctorate degree in Zoology with an emphasis in Genetics. In 1972, Pat returned to La Grande and became a highly esteemed and respected professor and Dean of Sciences at Eastern Oregon State College. Pat con- ducted additional research on genetic influences on cataracts of the eyes with Oregon Health Sciences University. As a professor she had the unique ability to make complex things easily understood. If you didn’t know Pat Duffey, it is certainly too bad for you and those around you. Generous to a fault, al- ways sharing with others, organizing “orphan dinners” for college students during holidays, delivering meals to remote senior citizens, organizing benefit “soup suppers” and concerts with local artists, are just some of the ways Pat gave back to the community. Pat will be very much missed by family, friends, and the countless number of folks she has helped and posi- tively affected during her lifetime. Survivors are many and they know exactly who they are. Pat wanted you to know that at least you got a hope- fully interesting story about her by taking the time to read this. There will not be an after-life celebration because she wanted to attend her own party. She had that party on June 16, 2019 and invited over 400 friends and family. Many attended and she hopes you were one of them. If you’re inclined to donate on her behalf, there are a couple of organizations that were always worthy of Pat’s attention - The Humane Association, 3212 Hwy 30, La Grande, OR, 97850 and Shelter from the Storm, 10901 Island Avenue, Island City, OR, 97850. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.lovelandfuneralchapel.com. Mom was from the Valley but always called eastern Oregon her home and wanted to be here at the end of her life. As mom aged she moved back home and Russ and Kelly provided her with a home and watched over her until her death. She passed peacefully with the love and nurturing of her children by her side. Gloria was preceded in death by her sons, Bob and Larry Risteen; all of her siblings and parents. Gloria leaves behind her four children and their spouses, Rod and Marty (Marla- deen) Risteen of Island City, Kelly and Russ Smith of Summerville, Missy Sweeney and Arnie Moralez of Grand Ronde and Shelly and Bill Fox of Grand Ronde; grandchildren, Melissa Pierce and Jeremy of Boise, Shawn and Niki Risteen of La Grande, Krista and Robert Ray of Union, Kenny and Niki Haggerty of Island City, Joey and Brittney Fox of La Pine, Larry and Glenda Whitley of Grand Ronde and Daniel Fox of Grand Ronde; 15 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Ella, Ari, Isabelle, Alex, Kaighen, Justin, Brody, Kennedy, Star, Chase, Brayden, Anthony, Rylan and Lucielle and 2 great-great-grandsons, Lynkin (L.J.) and Grayson. Oh how she loved her kids and grandkids. We can’t forget Pudgy and her kitties. We all told mom that when we died, we wanted to come back as her pet because they were more spoiled than any of us kids. Those who wish may make contributions in her memory to Heart ‘n Home Hospice, La Grande, Oregon. Arrangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center in La Grande. DebbraAnn Mildred Langley July 24, 2001 - August 10, 2021 DebbraAnn Mildred Langley, 20 years old, was born July 24, 2001 to Novalee Langley and Kent Hampton. She was a bundle of joy to watch grow up into a wonderful person. During soccer games she was always helping - the person without a shoe, a hurt player or anyone else in need. Her concern for how people felt was important to her and followed her through her whole life. In early 2010 her mom was diagnosed with cancer. They moved to Henderson, Nevada, for her mom to receive treatments and to have help taking care of Deb- braAnn. While in Henderson, she found a connection with the Paradise Seventh Day Adventist Church and their Pathfinders group. They took her in and made sure she was involved in as much as she could. She really enjoyed feeding the homeless every Saturday afternoon. It amazed her that they looked normal and yet so many were hungry. She learned the sign language honor and was able to sign to a man that was on the streets in a wheelchair and deaf. She also ‘talked’ with another person that was deaf in a shopping mall. These were very interesting experiences. The man was shy but lit up like a Christmas tree when she signed to him. Her dad came down for a week to see her each Christmas that she was away. DebbraAnn loved attending the Hamp- ton Family Christmas parties and dinners held at the La Grande Mavericks as well as at Willow School, where the kids’ received gifts and made gingerbread houses, sugar cookies and crafts. She also loved to attend the Hampton Family reunions held at the ranch every second Saturday in July, visit- ing with family she hadn’t seen throughout the year. When her dad had his leg amputated, Novalee would bring DebbraAnn to the hospital in the Tri-Cities and they would stay with him during his recoveries. She was always a very caring and loving daugh- ter. She continued with her care for others in many ways, the best being her hugs. Those who knew her best can attest to her hugs and always telling you, “Hi, how are you!” multiple times in one visit. DebbraAnn loved ani- mals dearly. She left behind her dog, Little Heart, of 13 years. Little Heart slept with her every night. She had two therapy cats as well. I have never seen two cats allow her to do so much with them. They brought her great joy, peace, and comfort. She graduated from Union High School June of 2021. The kids she went to school with knew she would stand up for those in need and they will deeply miss her. While attending Union High School she was crowned Homecoming Queen in the fall of 2019. Even though she did not partici- pate in sports, the students voted to honor DebbraAnn with this award because of her support of school sports and sportsman- ship behavior. She also she participated in Drama Class. She was enrolled through an online college to start forensic courses in Florida and was accepted into St. Leo University in Forensic Science. Her plans were set, and she was working with VR and BTI to establish a work history. On August 10, 2021, DebbraAnn passed away due to complications with her heart while hospitalized in Portland, OR. The celebration of life for DebbraAnn will be held October 23, 2021, at 3:00 pm at the Baker City Seventh Day Adventist Church, 42171 Chico Road, Baker City, OR 97814. There will be a potluck to follow. This service will include her grandparents Karlee E.E. Langley and Ivan Langley. If you have an experience or something you would like to share about the life of DebbraAnn please feel free to send an email to nmlangley1974@gmail.com and we will share it at her celebration of life. The family understands the concerns of Covid. If you do not feel comfortable, or not able to attend, we appreciate your thoughts and prayers. Services will be available online at www.bakercityor.adven- tistchurch.org. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to an animal shelter of your choice.
