Dolores Huerta, Cesar Chavez
and United Farm Workers will be

The Milagro Theater program
“¡HUELGA!” is sponsored by Cross-

The free performance was made
possible in part by the support of
the Oregon Arts Commission, Arts
Builds Communities Program and
the Ford Family Foundation.
¡HUELGA! was created by Maya
Malan-Gonzalez.
The story travels back in time
to 1962 and the beginning of the
farmworkers’ movement and con-
tinues up to the present day. Do-
lores Huerta co-founded the UFW
with Cesar Chavez.
According to a press release, “this
‘Super Acto’ inspired by Teatro
Campesino highlights the jour-
ney of Dolores, who continues to
“The great social justice changes in our
country have happened when people came
together, organized, and took direct action.
It is this right that sustains and nurtures
our democracy today.”
— Dolores Huerta
make history at the age of 90. Her
innumerable successes often went
uncelebrated in the past until she
changed the normative ideas about
women in leadership.”
In 2012, when she was awarded
the Presidential Medal of Freedom
by President Obama, he acknowl-
edged the fact that Dolores coined
the famous phrase “Si, se puede!
(Yes, we can!)”
The ensemble cast, which in-
cludes Aurora Hernandez as Dolo-
res, Ajai Terrazas Tripathi as Bob-
by Kennedy and Fred Ross, Pedro
Adan Dominguez as Cesar Chavez
and Tricia Castaneda Guevara as
The Eagle and Gloria Steinem, also
play dozens of other characters in
this fast-paced, sometimes irrever-
ent retelling of the history of the
UFW and its co-founders Dolores
Huerta and Cesar Chavez.
Susana Jacobo joins the cast as
La Musica, to provide traditional
folk songs for the marches and
movements.
