4 Thursday, April 15, 2021 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon Crossroads presents Milagro Theater’s ‘HUELGA’ BAKER CITY — The story of Dolores Huerta, Cesar Chavez and United Farm Workers will be presented virtually on Friday, April 23, at 7 p.m. The Milagro Theater program “¡HUELGA!” is sponsored by Cross- roads Carnegie Art Center. There will be an open question- and-answer discussion before and after the performance on Zoom. The free performance was made possible in part by the support of the Oregon Arts Commission, Arts Builds Communities Program and the Ford Family Foundation. ¡HUELGA! was created by Maya Malan-Gonzalez. The story travels back in time to 1962 and the beginning of the farmworkers’ movement and con- tinues up to the present day. Do- lores Huerta co-founded the UFW with Cesar Chavez. (Yes, we can!)” The ensemble cast, which in- cludes Aurora Hernandez as Dolo- res, Ajai Terrazas Tripathi as Bob- by Kennedy and Fred Ross, Pedro Adan Dominguez as Cesar Chavez and Tricia Castaneda Guevara as The Eagle and Gloria Steinem, also play dozens of other characters in this fast-paced, sometimes irrever- ent retelling of the history of the UFW and its co-founders Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez. Susana Jacobo joins the cast as La Musica, to provide traditional folk songs for the marches and movements. IN THE CLASSROOM Following Friday’s performance, Milagro teaching artists will be working virtually with the lan- guage arts teachers at Baker High School to help students create their own “actos” about important issues in the community.
