MOVIES: Classics like “It’s a Wonderful Life,” “White Christmas” and “Elf.” FOOD: Stuffing, pumpkin pie, sweet pota- toes, leftover turkey! CHRISTMAS TREE: The Christmas tree better be real, and we cut it at a tree farm. RONALD BOND, Wallowa County Chieftain editor (and honorary LGO newsroom member) SONG: Mannheim Steamroller’s “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” FOOD: My mom always made sticky buns and sausage for breakfast Christmas morn- ing. Also coffee cake. CHRISTMAS TREE: Real. Always. LISA BRITTON, GO co-editor, freelance reporter FOOD: The homemade pretzels and fondue we make for Christmas Eve. It’s a fun tradition and everyone is finally good at forming the pretzel shape! CHRISTMAS TREE: Real! We scout Christmas trees all summer during our hikes, but those are usually inaccessible due to snow by the time we venture out to find a tree. I love the smell a fresh tree brings to our home. MOVIE: “Fred Claus” FOOD: My mama’s iced sugar cookie! CHRISTMAS TREE: Real tree. JAYSON JACOBY, BCH editor SONG: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s version of “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town.” This song tops my list because it exudes the energy that defines a Springsteen concert, in this case one re- corded in 1975 before he became a legendary performer. The song also features a classic saxophone solo by Clarence Clemons and makes excellent use of sleigh bells. TV SHOW: “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” The instant I hear Vince Guaraldi’s jaunty, jazzy score, I am back in my childhood living room, watching on a console TV that weighs almost as much as a Volkswagen Beetle. MOVIE: “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.” Among the most quotable movies ever. FOOD: Peppermint bark. CHRISTMAS TREE: Real, and harvested from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest. I prefer grand firs but have dabbled, in the past, in subalpine firs and Douglas-firs. DOROTHY KAUTZ, graphic design, LGO SONGS: “White Christmas” and “I’ll Be Home for Christmas.” My mother would al- ways be sing- ing during the holidays. She has been gone a long time now but I can still picture her singing them. As a kid we would always sing “Jingle Bell Rock” while drinking hot chocolate and going to cut our Christmas tree and go WEEKEND OUTLOOK sledding. The whole family would go — we had several pickups loaded with people. TV SHOWS: “Frosty” and the Charlie Brown special. I watched them with my kids every year and now get to watch them with the grandkids. MOVIE: “Miracle on 34th Street” FOOD: I love pies, especially lemon me- ringue pie and pumpkin pie. CHRISTMAS TREE: Love the smell of a fresh-cut tree, but use the convenience of an artificial. called “What’s Opera, Doc” (a.k.a. Kill da Wabbit). It’s an all-time favorite. MOVIE: “Gremlins” FOOD: Gravy. It goes on everything and there’s never enough. CHRISTMAS TREE: My family got an artificial tree a few years ago and it’s almost absurdly convenient, but I grew up getting a live tree every year and I definitely miss it. There’s nothing like having a live spruce in the house. The cleanup, I miss less. I make my kids watch it with me every year. MOVIES: “Holiday Inn,” “It’s a Wonderful Life” and “Christmas Story” FOOD: My sister Becky’s peanut butter balls and Cherise Kaechele’s “Christmas crack.” And the fondue spread we have on Christmas Day — thanks, Mom! CHRISTMAS TREE: Real is ideal. Real- ity is artificial (with a pine-scented candle nearby). COREY KIRK, sports editor, BCH SONG: NSYNC’s “Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays” TV SHOW: Every “Friends” Christmas episode. MOVIE: “The Santa Clause” with Tim Allen. FOOD: Stuffing! CHRISTMAS TREE: Never had a real tree. KALEB LAY, reporter, LGO SONG : “White Christmas” by Bing Crosby. Apparently there’s a familial connec- tion, but given Bing’s reputation that might not exactly be uncommon. TV SHOW: It doesn’t have much to do with the holidays, but whenever my family is together we watch the Looney Tunes episode SONG: “White Christmas” MOVIE: “It’s a Wonderful Life” FOOD: Fruitcake. CHRISTMAS TREE: I prefer a real tree but I feel more comfortable with an artificial one for safety reasons. SARAH SMITH, event calender coordinator, EO Media Group SONG”: “Let It Snow” TV SHOW: I love the Futurama episode “Xmas Story.” MOVIE: “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” (1983) FOOD: Gingerbread. CHRISTMAS TREE: Artificial tree and real wreaths. PHIL WRIGHT, LGO editor SONGS: “Sleigh Ride,” “Silver Bells” and “Winter Wonderland” TV SHOWS: Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” and any “Doctor Who” Christmas special. I probably still would watch “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” MOVIES: No. 1 favorite is “Scrooged” (1988). The rest are not in any particular or- der: “Elf” (2003), “A Christmas Story” (1983), “Planes, Trains and Automobiles” (1987) and “Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale” (2010 — and this one is a horror movie).
