First Friday art shows open in Baker City BAKER CITY — Although 2020 is the year for change, through it all art has endured. In Baker City, new shows open at galleries every month during the First Friday artwalk. Some galleries have special guidelines — or a virtual show — due to the current condition caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Crossroads Christmas at Crossroads: “The Gift of Art,” opens on First Friday at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, 2020 Auburn Ave. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., later than usual, to encourage visitors to see the show throughout the day. Currently the center is limiting the gallery to six visitors at a time. To extend access to the art cen- ter, the website now offers a way to view and purchase items online. Go to www.crossroads-arts.org and click on “sales gallery.” “It’s a very exciting direction we are going in and we offer curbside pickup,” said Crystal Rainwater, community art director. “And al- though we can’t offer free shipping on everything we would like to try to work with everyone to make the holidays cheerful.” “The Gift of Art” show features artwork by local and regional artists. Items include fine arts and crafts, small prints, sculpture, jewelry, ornaments and cards. The exhibit is sponsored by Dr. Eric and Kristy Sandefur. Use the Second Street door and sign in to be entered to win a gift certificate for $25 to Sorbenots. The Christmas show continues through Dec. 24. Crossroads is currently open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Face coverings are required. White House, 1829 Main St., will be open during First Friday from noon to 8 p.m. The art gallery features the work of 30 local artists, jewelry designers and craftspeople plus shop-made artful decor. Tiedemann said visitors can find sales on selected items and enter a drawing for a holiday gift basket. Churchill Churchill Hall Pass Gallery will not be open for First Friday art walk this month, but artwork is available to purchase through its website, www.churchillbaker.com. Click on “Hall Pass Gallery” to see the available artwork. The Cheese Fairy/ Copper Belt Winery The Cheese Fairy and Copper Belt Winery will not be open for the December First Friday evening art walk. However, the shops are featur- ing works by Becky Litke, Sherri Linnemeyer, and Lynn and Jerry Clark with Red Neck Table Com- pany.
