2 Thursday, November 19, 2020 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon COVER STORY — JOSEPHY’S ‘GIFT OF ART’ FUNDRAISER JOSEPHY CENTER MOVES JOSEPH — In response to the ongoing coronavirus situation, the staff and board of the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture have adjusted the format of the annual “Gift of Art” fundraiser supporting youth art programs. “Instead of a silent auction, we decided to go for affordable art that people can purchase and take home or purchase online and pick up,” explained Josephy’s execu- tive director, Cheryl Coughlan in a press release. Although the traditional in- person silent auction and celebra- tion won’t be possible, submitted artwork will be sold via online auction and will also be displayed at the Josephy Center, 403 N. Main St., Joseph, for in-person viewing when possible. The auction goes live at 10 a.m. Dec. 1 and concludes Dec. 24. Funds raised by the Gift of Art will give fi nancial support to classes and activities for youth, and scholarships that make it possible for all to participate. All proceeds will go toward the center’s classes such as the Youth Art Friday pro- gram, Art Bags and scholarships. Youth Art Friday The winter Youth Art Friday session begins Jan. 8 and runs Gift of Art FUNDRAISER ONLINE through February (if public safety protocols allow) and will include ceramics, drawing and painting. This year, the center’s annual Gift of Art fundraiser that supports youth art programs is going online. Submit artwork by Nov. 20 The deadline for submitting artwork via email to the show is Nov. 20. Artists may submit up to three original pieces, from ceramics to high-end crafts and paintings. Each work must be priced under $100 retail, and artists will receive a 60/40 commission. Also at the Josephy Center this winter will be the Wallowa Valley Photo Club’s exhibit, “View Finder,” which opens Nov. 23 and will be up until Dec. 22. Wallowa County, the ocean, Lake Powell, Maui and more — come see through the photographer’s eye and feel the places these view fi nders love. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at 7 p.m. The book is about Saul In- dian Horse, a child whose family retreats into the woods. Among the lakes and cedars, they attempt to reconnect with half-forgotten traditions while hiding from the authorities who have been kidnap- ping Ojibway youths. But when winter approaches, Saul loses everything: his brother, his parents, his beloved grand- mother — and then his home.
