Thursday, February 20, 2020 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon 3 Salute the valiant women of the vote ■ Josephy Center exhibit celebrates the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote JOSEPH — The Josephy Center for Arts and Culture will present its 2020 Women’s Exhibition, “The Valiant Women of the Vote: Deter- mined to Rise,” beginning Feb. 28. Every year, the center does an open call for women’s artwork. For the sixth annual exhibit, Josephy received art from more than 50 art- ists and 45 pieces were accepted. “This year’s exhibit is extra- special since we are celebrating 100 years of the women’s right to vote,” said Cheryl Coughlan, center director. “We have put together a special historical photo exhibit of the suffragettes from the west and in particular Oregon’s Abigail Scott Duniway.” The opening reception begins at 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at the Josephy Center. Food and drink will be available. Awards for People’s Choice and Curator’s Choice will be presented at 8:30 p.m. This year the curator is artist Jennifer Klimsza. Main St, Joseph Info: josephy.org A variety of events will take place between Feb. 28 and April 15 — a reading, concert, brown bag discussions, a fi lm, art classes, performances and more. “Many local non-profi ts are helping make these special events happen including Fishtrap’s Fire- side reading, Wallowa Valley Music Alliance’s concert and Wallowa County’s Soroptimist,” Coughlan said. This exhibit was made possible by the WC Soroptimist, the Oregon Arts Commission, the Collins Foun- dation and the Autzen Foundation.
