Round 1 went to Colorado, which despite being unranked was a 1-1/2-point favorite. The noise level was at a frenzied level despite the students be- ing on winter break, and the fans ran onto the court after the fi nal buzzer. The Buffs held Oregon to 3 of 18 shooting from 3-point range. UTES TOP OSU SALT LAKE CITY— Timmy Allen scored 25 points and col- lected 10 rebounds to lead Utah to an 81-69 victory over Oregon State in the Pac-12 opener for both teams Thursday. Both Gach added 17 points while Rylan Jones scored 14 points and dished out fi ve assists for the Utes. Utah overcame tough interior defense by the Beavers by successfully getting out in transition. The Utes scored 22 fastbreak points. Tres Tinkle scored 19 points and collected six rebounds to lead Oregon State. Zach Riechle and Ethan Thompson chipped in 15 apiece. Oregon State scored 16 points off 11 Utah turnovers and blocked eight shots but could not over- come its own lengthy scoring droughts. The Beavers endured a seven-minute stretch during the fi rst half when they missed seven straight shots and 10 of 11 overall. HANSELL Continued from Page 7A the last nine years, it comes just three seasons after Oregon went 4-8, the Ducks’ worst year since 1991. The turnaround by the program in those three years, from 4-8 to 12-2, was a much talked about point by media pundits and players, and one of what Hansell said were several “feel good stories” from the victory. “Both the defense and offensive players of the game are Oregon boys — the quar- terback, Justin, from Eugene and Brady Breeze from Lake Oswego. That speaks well of Oregonians,” he said. “Justin coming back as well as the other seniors. They could have gone pro. They were rewarded for their heart and dedication.” it’s too late! HURRY!
