Over the past week, there have been multiple reports of Las Vegas birds sport- ing various colored cowboy headwear, raising many, many questions. Who is doing this? How? Why? Are the pigeons OK? Pigeon rescue and advoca- cy group Lofty Hopes, whose slogan is, “A Pigeon Positive Movement,” is working to fi nd some answers. Mariah Hillman, who runs Lofty Hopes, told Huff- Post that after several days of searching, on Tuesday they fi nally tracked down the pigeon in the red hat, which they’ve named Cluck Norris. Coo-Lamity Jane, who wears a pink hat, is still out roaming the wild west. There’s also reportedly a brown-hatted pigeon on the loose. The birds went viral last week after a video, shot by local resident Bobby Lee, was picked up by local media. Others also reported see- ing the well-dressed birds out and about. Some social media users noted that the National Finals Rodeo hap- pened to be in town, but the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association had “nothing to do with the pigeons wear- ing cowboy hats,” ProRodeo Photo contributed by the Huffi ngton Post Pigeons wearing hats have been seen walking the streets of Las Vegas. Sports News editor Scott Kaniewski told The New York Times. Lofty Hopes operates in the Las Vegas area and works to help injured wild and domestic pigeons, as well as other birds and animals. Hillman said that although she fi rst thought the birds’ attire was cute, she quickly developed con- cerns for the safety of the cowboy pigeons when she realized the hats appeared to be permanently secured. Now that the hats have been on for at least fi ve days, Hillman believes the hats have been stuck on with something more industrial than just “eyelash glue,” she said. “We could wait until they molt it off, wait until he loses his feathers when it gets warm out,” she sug- gested. “Oil neutralizes glue, Astoria Longview 38/47 Kennewick 39/45 St. Helens 40/46 MON TUE Thickening clouds Considerable clouds Cloudy Partly sunny Mostly cloudy Baker City 35/43 Comfort Index™ La Grande Portland Condon 34/43 39/47 38/46 2 26 35 22 Comfort Index™ 3 Eugene 4 3 0 38/46 37 24 36 25 35 25 1 2 0 33 20 3 3 3 3 ALMANAC WED.
