WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2019 THE OBSERVER — 3A LOCAL O BITUARIES Benjamin D. (Houston) Seidel La Grande 1990-2019 Benjamin David (Hous- ton) Seidel, 29, of La Grande, died Nov. 12 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 23 at Daniels- Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebration Center. Known as Ben, he was born Feb. 12, 1990, in Baker City, to Donald and Karen (Seidel) Houston. As a child he moved from Halfway to La Grande, where he at- tended school. Ben worked as a cook and a dishwasher at Dusty Spur and took pride in his job. He loved his fam- ily, friends and his dogs. Surviving relatives include his sister, Samantha Houston of La Grande; ad- opted brothers, Jacob Kahut, Kyle Kahut and Justin Kahut; grandmother, Marie Houston of La Grande; two nieces, Trenity Houston and Bailey Morales-Houston; one nephew, Gebriel Morales- Houston; and numerous cousins and adopted family. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jes- sica Seidel; adopted brother, Tyler Kahut; grandfather, Delbert Houston; uncle, Leo Houston; and aunt, Dorothy Thompson. Kirkland Imbler 1947-2019 David Wayne Kirkland, 72, of Imbler, died Nov. 8 at his residence. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 22 at the North Powder United Method- ist Church. David was born Oct. 11, 1947, in La Grande, to George and Maxine (Erwin) Kirkland. He was raised in North Pow- der. David served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam with the 9th Division 32nd Battalion from 1968 to 1969. He mar- ried Phyllis Brookshire Marx and later Pamela Bagley. Both marriages ended in divorce. David was a truck driver and heavy equipment op- erator, built roads for the logging industry and worked in the sawmill. He was em- ployed by HNS Construction, Crisstad Enterprises, Bow- man Trucking and Brook- shire Logging. David enjoyed hunting, fi shing, reading Westerns and crime books, and being a mechanic. During his time in Viet- nam, David earned the Viet- nam Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Citation Medal, and the Purple Heart. He was wounded when he stepped on a landmine. Agent Orange was all over the ground. He dove into a rice bed but was struck in the back of the neck with shrapnel. David played bas- ketball and ran cross country and track during his school days. His best friend was his dog, Wendy. Surviving relatives include his sons, Mark Kirkland of New Plymouth, Idaho, and Chase Kirkland of Portland; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Karen Kirkland of North Powder; three grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Dwayne Irvin. He was preceded in death by his son, Clint Kirkland; parents; and sisters, Iola “Oly” Maxine Kirkland Irvin, Faye Carlon and Dee Harn. (Pace) Campbell La Grande 1931-2019 Donna Mae Campbell, 88, of La Grande, died Nov. 13 at Grande Ronde Hospital. A celebration of her life will be held in the spring. Ar- rangements are entrusted to Daniels-Knopp Funeral, Cremation & Life Celebra- tion Center. Donna was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Enterprise, to Ora and Beulah (Gribling) Pace. She graduated from Enter- prise High School. In 1954, Donna moved to La Grande, where she worked as the cook manager for Greenwood Elementary School from 1964 to 1994. Donna was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed reading and travel- ing and loved her family. Surviving relatives include her daughter, Shirley Harris of Silverton; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and sis- ters, Phyllis Gibbs and Betty Sasser, both of Enterprise. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mar- gie Cordova; siblings, Jack Pace and Gordon Wayne Pace; and one grandchild. Patricia F. (Knight) Jenkins La Grande she married Orlander “Lee” Jenkins in La Grande. Patricia taught second grade at Riveria Elemen- tary School for more than 20 years and then fi nished her career teaching second grade at Central Elementary School. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, the Retired Teachers Association, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Emblem Club and a stock club. Patricia enjoyed worldwide travel and oil painting. She loved spending time at the family’s Tollgate cabin, entertaining on her deck and organizing family reunions each year. Surviving relatives include her children and their spouses, Jim and Valerie Jenkins of Vancouver, Wash- ington, Patrick Jenkins and David Hill of Portland and Brad and Lisa Jenkins of La Grande; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Jenkins, on May 9, 2012, and a sister, Donna Goss. Brown North Powder 1961-2019 Wade David Brown, 58, of North Powder, died Nov. 10 at his residence. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 23 at the North Powder Grange Hall. Wade was born Sept. 7, 1961, in Hermiston, to Glen and Mayfi e (Tummonds) Brown. He resided in La Grande and North Powder. He married Susan Warmuth on March 23, 2011. Wade was employed as a logger. He enjoyed camp- ing, fi shing, woodcutting and hunting mushrooms, anything outdoors. He also loved old Westerns. Family was always most important to Wade, and he would do anything to help a friend. Surviving relatives in- clude his wife, Susan; broth- ers, Robert Brown of North Powder, Glen Brown Jr., and James Brown; sisters, Sara Alexander, Nancy Wright and Annette Scott; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Mayfi e Brown, and a sister, Debbie Taylor. Bean Formerly of La Grande 1937-2019 Vern Ellis Bean, 82, of Walkersville, Maryland, and formerly of La Grande, died Oct. 28. A funeral will begin at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Walkersville. Visitation with the family will be held beforehand from 11:30 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery will immediately follow the service. Vern was born Jan. 19, 1937, in La Grande, to Wal- ter Arnold and Rose Emily (Ellis) Bean. Education was always important to Vern and he earned a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree and a PhD in physics, all from Brigham Young University. He also attended Eastern Oregon University, where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumnus in 2015. Vern had a notable career as a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and 1925-2019 Patricia Francis Jenkins, 93, of La Grande, died Nov. 11 at her home. They raised four children in Utah, California, and Maryland. Vern took par- ticular pride in designing and building almost all the furniture in their house. Surviving relatives include his children and their spous- es, Gregory and Donita Bean, Scot and Lisa Bean, Charis and David Duke, and Laura Bean; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandsons. He is also survived by three great-grandsons, Milo, Jack, and Hugo Streeter.
