7 Wednesday, October 23, 2019 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon Creepy, kooky musical opens Friday ■ Baker High School drama department presents ‘The Addams Family’ musical Oct. 25-27 By Lisa Britton BAKER CITY — Scot Violette has been preparing for this perfor- mance for four years — a musical of a grand scale on theBaker High School stage. “The Addams Family” shows are Oct. 25, 26 and 27. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday — all in the BHS auditorium, 2500 E St. Violette said it’s a “full-blown Broadway musical with singing and dancing.” Admission at the door will be $12 adults, $8 students. This performance is billed as “not so live” musical theater. “Ninety percent of the cast are dead people,” Violette said. Actors studied lines over the summer and came together in September to begin rehearsals as a full cast. The musical is a coordinated project between drama, choir and band and counts as the fall concerts for those programs. It also features an orchestra with Hannah Violette, Paul McNeil, Joy Murphy, Russell Anderson, Anthony Cowan, Carlos Grove and Sarah Plummer. This is Scot Violette’s fi fth year as drama coach. This musical, he said, celebrates the performing arts students who have been part of the programs since the beginning of his tenure. “They’re seniors now,” he said. “I wanted them to do a big show as a last hurrah.” To prepare for the musical num- bers, Allison Mitchell worked on vocals with the actors. UPCOMING SHOWS After “The Addams Family,” the BHS performing arts departments will begin working on “A Christmas Carol,” which will be part of the Vespers concerts on Dec. 8. Next spring will bring a performance of Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” April 17-19.
