Tiger soccer splits at Mac-Hi
Observer staff
Audrey Garlitz, coming off a seven-goal
performance earlier in the week against
Nyssa, scored four more goals, and Lauran
Rinker scored twice and added two assists
as the La Grande Tigers clinched a share of
the Greater Oregon League title for the ninth
year in a row with a 6-1 road win over the
McLoughlin Pioneers Friday.
“It was a solid, all around performance,” La
Grande head coach Sam Brown said.
La Grande ran in winning streak in GOL
action to 17 matches in a row with the win.
The Tigers have outscored their GOL oppo-
nents this season, 30-1.
Mac-Hi did become the fi rst league op-
ponent to score on La Grande since Baker in
the league opener last fall, ending a streak of
nine straight GOL shutouts. Alexyss Cham-
berlain, though, did record three saves.
La Grande (10-2 overall, 5-0 GOL) fi nishes
league play Saturday at Ontario, and can lock
up the league title outright with a victory.
TIGER BOYS FALL TO PIONEERS 1-0
The La Grande Tigers saw the roles
reversed. Just three weeks after earning
a 1-0 home win against the McLoughlin
Pioneers, Mac-Hi returned the favor with its
own 1-0 home victory in the rematch Friday
in Greater Oregon League action at Milton-
Freewater.
“It was an awesome game,” La Grande
head coach Sid Rangel said. “We had tough
competition and we saw a different Mac-Hi
this time around....We had our chances but
we just didn’t fi nish on the attacking third of
the pitch.”
The loss, which was the third in a row for
the Tigers, ended their hopes of a GOL title.
La Grande, though, can still fi nish second in
the league with a win at Ontario in its season
fi nale and a loss by Mac-Hi to Baker. A tie
and a Mac-Hi loss would put the teams in a
tie for second.
The Tigers (7-4 overall, 2-3 GOL) travel to
Ontario to fi nish the regular season Saturday.
The Elgin Huskies
fi nished the regular season
with a home sweep of Pine
Eagle on Friday, winning
25-17, 25-22, 26-24.
Tymra Anderson led Elgin
with nine kills, Kaelin Evans
added eight digs, Jayden
Palmer had 16 assists and
Erika Adams tallied three
blocks.
The Huskies (10-12 over-
all, 5-7 Old Oregon League)
face Imbler Saturday in an
elimination match in the
Old Oregon League district
tournament at La Grande
High School.
COUGARS TOP CRANE IN
FOUR
The Wallowa Cougars
wrapped up the regular sea-
son with a four-set home win
over the Crane Mustangs
Friday, 25-23, 22-25 25-16,
25-19.

will face Cove Saturday in
an elimination match in the
Old Oregon League district
tournament at La Grande
High School.
