The live music is free to enjoy. On Saturday, the farmers market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon. Auditions set for ‘Nuncrackers’ BAKER CITY — Eastern Or- egon Theatre will hold auditions at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 for “Nuncrackers: The Nunsense Christmas Musical.” Parts are open for one male and four children (ages 8 to 17), plus alternate “nuns” for singing roles. The show opens Dec. 12 and will run through Dec. 22. Performers and spectators welcome at open mic JOSEPH — The next Josephy Open Mic Night will take place Sept. 19 at the Josephy Center, 403 N. Main St., Joseph. The free, family-friendly event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Perform your own song or use the karaoke ma- chine. Spectators are encouraged. Bring some food to share. Friday Writing Workshops continue at Churchill BAKER CITY — Stephen How- ard will lead a writing workshop titled “Characters & Cabernet” at 7 p.m. at Churchill School, 3451 Broadway St., Baker City. Howard will take participants through the writing process and how to build a story. His writing workshops continue with “Milestones and Merlot” on Oct. 18 and “Hops and Plots” on Oct. 25. Ballet classes start soon at Crossroads Center BAKER CITY — Debbie Fried- man will teach two ballet classes at Crossroads Carnegie Art Center beginning next week. Ballet Level 2 for ages 8 to 12 is for those who have one to two years of previous training. This class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Sept. 24 through Oct. 31. Cost is $96 mem- bers, $144 nonmembers. Beginning Ballet I for ages 6-9 begins Sept. 25 and continues through Oct. 30. This class meets Wednesdays from 4:15 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. Cost is $48 members, $72 nonmembers. Looking Glass Books launches storytime LA GRANDE — Looking Glass Books, 1304 Adams Ave., La Grande, will be offering a Saturday storytime for children of all ages beginning Sept. 21. Stories will be told on Saturdays starting at 10 a.m. There is no cost to attend. If you like, bring a cushion or chair to sit on. Teens invited to make air plant terrariums LA GRANDE — Cook Memorial Library’s next Teen iCraft begins at 4 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Community Room of the library, 2006 Fourth St., La Grande. This month, teens will make air plant terrariums. This free activity is open to anyone in middle or high school. Supplies are provided and space is limited to 25 participants. Registration is not WEEKEND OUTLOOK a brief look at what’s happening in northeast oregon needed. The library offers a variety of free activities for teens. More rides planned for Eagle Cap Excursion ELGIN — The Eagle Cap Excursion train has several rides planned for this fall. All excursions depart from the Elgin Depot. A wine and cheese trip is set for Sept. 28. It departs at 3 p.m. and is recommended for ages 21 and older. Cost is $75 adults, $70 seniors. The Gold Rush Bandits will stage a train robbery on the Oct. 5 ride. This excursion departs at 10 a.m. and returns at 2:30 p.m. Cost is $70 adults, $65 seniors, $35 children ages 3 to 16. A Two River Bonus ride is scheduled for Oct. 12, departing at 10 a.m. and returning at 2:30 p.m. Cost is $75 adults, $70 seniors, $40 children ages 3 to 16. The fall schedule wraps up with a Season’s Bounty train on Oct. 19. This departs at 2 p.m. and returns at 6 p.m. Food will be catered by Ten Depot Street. Oktoberfest fundraiser supports Crossroads BAKER CITY — Crossroads Carnegie Art Center’s annual fall fundraiser, an Oktoberfest event, is set for Oct. 19. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Baker Event Center, 2600 East St., Baker City. The menu, prepared by The Little Pig, will include giant pretzels with dipping sauce, bratwurst, sauer- kraut, warm German potato salad, cucumber-tomato salad and fruit hand pies (gluten-free and vegetar- ian options are available). Music will be provided by the Edelweiss Band from Boise, Idaho. Tickets are $35 per person and include dinner, one beer or wine and $5 donated to the Crossroads Hand to Heart scholarship fund. Additional tokens for beer, wine and pretzels will be available for sale. All tickets must be purchased by Oct. 12 — none will be sold at the door. The evening will feature a silent auction, plus four “paddle” items where guests pledge funds for four programs: Missoula Children’s Theater, scholarships, snacks for ArtSpeak, and improvements to the sound system. Community band invites new members LA GRANDE — Community Band Northwest will begin re- hearsals for this season on Sept. 23 in Loso Hall’s Groth Recital Hall on the EOU campus in La Grande. Re- hearsals will be held on Mondays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. CBN invites all woodwind, brass and percussion players to join the ensemble in the fun of making music together. The band is open to anyone in middle school through adult, and all skill levels are welcome. The participation fee is $10 for students and $45 for adults. College credit is available through EOU. Youth Art Fridays fall session begins this week JOSEPH — The Josephy Cen- ter’s Youth Art Fridays fall season will run Sept. 20-Dec. 13. Classes will be taught by Mary Ambroson, Kodi McCleary and Pam Beach, and Jennifer Klimsza will lead an open studio for teens and adults.
