Russel Alec Hunt, 67,
of Summerville, died
Nov. 9, 2018. A celebra-
tion of his

at the Baker
City Chris-
tian Church.
Known
as Russ, he
was
born
April 20, 1951, in Ritz-
ville, Washington, to
Ross and Violet (Ged-
des) Hunt. They moved
to Haines when Russ
was 11. He was active
in Boy Scouts and was
awarded Eagle Scout in
1966. Russ graduated
from Baker High School
in 1969, and in 1970 he
joined the U.S. Navy,
completing 5-1/2 years
of service as a Navy mu-
sician.
Russ married Sharon
McLean in 1974, and
the marriage was dis-
solved within a year.
He married Joan Bagley
McClure in 1975. They
moved to Haines and a
son, Daniel, was born in
1977. The marriage was
dissolved in 1996.
In 1988, Russ com-
pleted bachelor de-
grees in both nursing
and psychology from
OHSU and Eastern Or-
egon University. He
returned to the Navy,
commissioning into the
Naval Officer Corps as a
nurse, and retired as a
lieutenant commander
in 2003.
Russ earned a mas-
ter’s degree in nurs-
ing in 1991. From 1991
to 1997, he taught for
OHSU on the EOU cam-
pus and was also a stu-
dent adviser. He worked
in community mental
health in Harney, Lake,
Baker and Umatilla
counties and began a
part-time, then full-
time, private practice.
Russ scaled that back
for four years to provide
psychiatric care for the
VA Clinic in La Grande,
then retired from fed-
eral service in 2013
and returned to private
practice full-time.
In 2002, Russ mar-
ried Anita Enneberg.
They did everything
together. Russ loved
his family and friends
and his work. He loved
playing music, flying
his airplane, hunting
and fishing, and talk-
ing to people about the
Lord.
Russ was a long-time
member of the National
Association for Rural
Mental Health. In more
recent years, being a
member of the Navy
Musicians Association
reconnected him with
shipmates from long
ago. He was a member
of the Elgin Christian
Church.
Surviving
relatives
include his wife, Anita
Hunt of Summerville;
sons and daughters-
in-law, Daniel and Joy
Hunt of Elgin, Ross
Kemp of Shreveport,
Louisiana, and Lane and
Katrina Kemp of Biloxi,
Mississippi; brothers,
Eugene Hunt and wife,
Rhea, and Robert Hunt;
six grandchildren; and
many nieces and neph-
ews.
He was preceded in
death by his parents,
Ross and Violet Hunt,
and a brother, Daniel.
