7 Wednesday, January 1, 2020 GO! magazine — A&E in Northeast Oregon Three writers lined up for Fishtrap Fireside ■ Warm up at January’s session featuring Ralph Swinehart, Moll McCarty and Nate Lowe ENTERPRISE — Fishtrap Fire- side starts off the new year Jan. 3 with two Wallowa County locals and a special guest from Union County. The evening begins at 7 p.m. at Fishtrap, 400 E. Grant St., Enter- prise. Admission is free. Find a seat by the fi re and hear readings from Wallowa County’s Moll McCarty and Ralph Swine- hart, and from Nate Lowe, Eastern Oregon University’s dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. “Fishtrap has developed a unique partnership with EOU through Fishtrap College and Summer Fishtrap,” according to program manager Mike Midlo. “It’s an honor to introduce Nate to the Fireside audience and have him read.” An open mic follows where audi- ence members have a chance to get up to the podium and share their stories too. RALPH SWINEHART Ralph Swinehart moved to Wallowa County in 1972 as part of the back-to-the-land movement and still lives on the small farm he started building then. He is currently a semi-retired engineer and a part-time sheep- herder and is working on becoming a full-time Luddite. In his spare time, Ralph works on and drives his Model As and Model Ts. NATE LOWE Nate Lowe is a writer, teacher and college administrator. His work has appeared in such journals as Ascent, South Dakota Review, Blood Orange Review, Beecher’s Magazine and The Chattahoochee Review. In addition, his creative essays have been listed as “Notable of the Year” by the Best American Winter Wear Nate Lowe Essays series and nominated for Pushcart Prizes. Nate is currently at work on two books of essays, a chapbook tentatively titled “The Animals We Make,” which explores the plea- sures and failures of early father- hood, and a full-length collection that tries to make sense of his rural childhood through stories of pickup trucks and the men and women who drove them. After 15 years of teaching college creative writing, in 2017 he was named EOU’s dean of the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. Moll is interested in writing about the intersections of ecology, philosophy, race and gender. Their favorite color is currently orange.
