'Golden Girl' Under Arrest SOUTH BEND. Ind. iUPl - A former "golden girl who used to delight halftime crowds at Pur due University football games has been fined $116 and given a sus pended six-months jail term (or shoplifting. . , Sandra Hutchison, 21. and her mother, Mrs. Shirley Ellen Hut chison, were given the twin sus ' pended . sentences after South Bend city Judge Edward Olczak said both had suffered enough from bad publicity. FINE IMPOSED Continued From Page 5 The Russian word for such an al liance is "skondcl." When tho officer appeared in the City Court to divorce his wife he was shocked to find the court had decided to make an example of him. He was granted the divorce because the blonde , was with child bue he was ord ered to pay one-third of his monthly income to his 55-year-old . wife. He shouted "robber" in the courtroom and moaned that he was being persecuted. And now I was about to see . a Russian divorce trial, thanks to Henry Kline, a Russian-born New York attorney. Although Russian courtrccms are open to all who wish to enter, I felt I would get much more out of the proceed ings if I had au interpreter. Eleonora, my assigned Intqurist .interpreter, could not accompany me. Her orders were to discour age the "Amerikansky journalis 'ka" from attending any court room session. She had told me the proceedings were closed to the public. This courtroom was even more :pcorlv ventilated and shabbier 'than the one we had visited the day before. The floors sagged and the plaster walls were crack ed. There were only 16 people piesent, including the three judges. The first case pitted Anna Os penskcya against Vladimir Ospen- ikcya. Anna was employed in a shoe factory. Vladimir was a construction worker. She was su ing him for divorce on grounds that he had left her eight years ago to live with another woman. Anna now had two children by Sascha Terminoff, a taxi driver, and was expecting a third. It is embarrassing." Anna s lawyer complained. "Anna's two thildren are in school under the name of Ospenskeya. yet every one knows the man in the house is named Terminoff. The child ten should not carry this mark or. them. DRAMATIC PLEA The lawyer became quite dra matic. Kline told me this was unnecessary because the lawyer Jiad a cinch case and he know it. It is not uncommon, however, for client to slip a bonus to an at torney who has performed wen. ' Vladimir was called to the 'land and with eyes lowered he admitted he had left Anna and Ihe children In 1951. hy din vou desert your tam- ilj?" one cf the judges asked Jiim. "becaue our lemner did not J armonizc," Vladimir replied mat ter of factly. Divorce granted," the judge announced. Kline veil the detail fnm lhr l.'us-si.m, lawyer. Italy, which boasts of being the least trouble some U.S. ally, wants a larger say in top-level Western policy discussions. LATE TEARS Alexan der Robillard, 19, broke down and cried while giving a tearful account of how he killed Hills borough policeman Eug ene Doran last August. Robillard said, "I didn't know w hat to do. I didn't think, I just fired. Robbi lard, who has pleaded i guilty, will go to trial in Redwood City, Calif. ings were started almost two years ago and had involved miles of red tape. ."The government makes it dif ficult," the lawyer confided. "There are too many broken homes. It is not good for socie ty. But still the divorce calendars! are jammed and there's always a waiting list." The next case was Nicolai Pct rovitch against Valentina Petro vitch. Nicolai was a dark-eyed, square-jawed man cf abut 30. He was employed as a waiter in a lesort hotel in Odessa. He had taken three days from his job to come to Moscow for a divorce. Nicolai was not represented by counsel. Valentina, he asserted, had not borne him a child in their four years of marriage. He left her two years ago followung what he described as -her second self in duced home abortion. Nicolai was now living with Kcrenina Jenkonova, who had borne him twin sons. He wanted his freedom from Valentina so he could marry Karenina. Nicolai spoke for about 10 min utes, describing Valentina as a lazy,' no-good wife who neither kept house nor worked at a stea dy job. He said her mother in terfered constantly and had set a match to their marrige from the beginning. He spoke in a forth right, laconic manner that sound ed rehearsed but nonclcss con vincing. CHARGE DENIED The judge asked Valentina, a pimply-faced mountain of a girl, to take the stand. She was seat ed next to her mother who wept end wrung her hands through out the proceedings. "Is is true you caused yourself to have two home abortions?" the judg? asked. "It Is a He," she shouted angri ly, "The first abortion was na ture's work. The second was be cause of Nicolai. He beat mc with his fists during an argument and caused me to lose the baby the same evening." "Do you have a witness?" the judge asked. "I ftave not witness. How did I know he would make p such a lie?" "Do you wish to contest (he di vorce?" the judge asked. "I den't want him any more. The other woman can have him and it will serve her right." ' The divorce was granted. The judge announced a brief intermission and everyone ad journed to the hall. Kline asked me if I had seen enough. I had. The words of the Russian psychi atrisl came back to me "Nobody haa. .problems in Russia, he had said smugly. "The system takes care of everything."
