t 'World Religions Theme Of Sorority September has been a very busy month for the members of Delta Epsilon, Epsilon Sitjma Al pha. The first meeting cf the chapter was held in the home of Mrs. Connie Struck with 20 members present. Programs for the year were passed out to the girls in keep ing with the study program for the year, "World Religions." Marg Knight reported on plans for the group's -rummape sale. President, Sharon Hickey re ported cn the International Con vention held in June at Hortland, Which several ' of the girls at- Ballroom Dance Class WO 3-2008 tended. The district council meeting uas held Sunday, Aug. 30 in lone. Mary Ruth Carnes gave a report on the meeting which she and Nadine UeKalh, Kay Hilyard. .loan McGee, Juan King and Dar lene Wagner attended. At this meeting is was decided to hold Spring District Council in La Grande, with Delta Kpsilon as hostess chapter. Hostesses for the evening were Jolita Hill, Jeannine Trotter and Ann Haun. :The educational meeting for Ihel month was held at the home if Jo Sweet Sept. IB. A -report on plans for the Christmas formal was given by the chairman, Bernice Webster and several committees were ap pointed. Janet Cochran and Bernice Webster and I-ouise Young were hostesses for the evening. . CUla Kirkland and Marg .Knight gave the program for the evening, giving the reasons why uraajr needed a religion and how the church began, with a com parison of the eight basic relig ions, made. EVA MONROE Honored On 90th Birthday Reception Honors Mrs. Eva Monroe An open house' was held re cently honoring Mrs. Eva Mon roe on her 90th birthday. The affair was held in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jeanne Ball. of La Grande, assisting her was another daughter, Mrs. Mary Ed wards, A birthday cake made and dec orated' by Gertrude l.entz, was served to more than 100 friends attending. The honored receiv ed many gifts and best wishes during the afternoon. Assisting were granddaugh ters, Marjorie Gillespie, of Wal Iowa, daughter of Mrs. Edwards; and Helene Holcomb of Dehakc. Margaret McCoy, Mildred Carl son and Lillian Herrman of La Grande, daughters of the late Sarah Young. Mrs. Monroe was born in Il linois in 186a. and came to Ore r,on with her family inl8!8. She has lived in La Grande all but 16 years cf the past 61. She is a member of the Latter Day Saints church and of the Rebekah lodge. She has maintain ed her own apartment in the Odd Fellows temple for the,, past 18 years. AAUWTeaWill Be Held Oct. 17 The American Association of University Women, Membership Tea will be held on. Saturday, Oct. 17. This was decided at the planning meeting on Friday night, in the home of branch president. Alene Gossage. Plans for the tea were discussed along with methods of contacting all women graduates from eligible colleges who are now living in this area. Committees for the yearly pro gram were named with these chairmen: Membership, Mrs. Eva Miller; Social Studies, Dr. Mary Jan? Loso; International Relations. Former La Grande Woman Married In Portland Rites Helen Vandolah and Clark Green were marrifd in the First Methodist Church of Portland. Sept. is, at an evening ceremony. The bride is a former La Grande resident. A reception was held in the church, parlor. Background music was nrovided at the piano. Decorations curried out the color scheme of blue nnd white.
