DETROIT (L'PI) The new compact cars to be introduced by the "big three" of the auto indus try may. be only the first in a series of new types of cars the industry will introduce in .the future. .. This was the Impression left by Henry Fo'rd II, president of Ford Motor Co., Wednesday when he addressed an estimated 1,500 newsmen watching on a closed circuit television network at the first showing of Ford's new com pact car. the Falcon. "One thing seems clear," Ford said. "We are on the way to pro viding a still wider variety of types, sizes and shapes of auto mobile. ..to meet the varied need of a people of constantly rising standards of living, both at work and play.'' He revealed these details of the first American-built compact car to. be unveiled by a member of the ."big three": , Six -passenger, six-cylinder, 90 horsepower, overhead valve en gine. 109.5,inch wheelbase, 181.1 inches . long overall, 54 J inches high, 70 inches wide, .2,366 pounds and capable of 30 miles per gallon "under normal driving condi tions.'.' Ford said no price had been set yet. but talk in the industry has placed the beginning price of the Falcon and its competitors under $2,000. Car Plunges Off Road; Woman Dies Near Bend BEND . IUPI) Mrs. Madge Decker, 45, Prineville. . was killed about 4:25 p.m. Friday when the car she was driving plunged off Highway 7 near Pilot Butte and struck, a culvert. . State police said the woman apparently lost control of her car. She was alone in the vehicle.
