'Yard Charm' Program Given At Sorority fi Eta Chapter of Beta Simna Blii held (heir regular meeting m Hie home of Mrs. Felix Cavallo. An interesting program was pre sented by Mrs. Mel Plass, on the subject of yard charm. Uustra tions were shown on how shrubs and trees should be in proportion to the shape and style of house. Dee. 13 is the date of the Christ mas formal, with a predance p i t at- the home of Mrs. Everett Reynolds. At the close of the meeting re freshments were served by hos tesses Mrs. Jim Voelz ami Mis Cavallo. Thanksgiving Day Theme Of Meeting UNION (Special! The WSCS met Wednesday Nov. 1st, with President, Margaret Layton pre siding. Louise Smill'ers gave the devotional from the 85th Psalm and the poem "Start the Day With find" from the "Together," maga zine. The program was under the direction of Doris Hannan. Slip read two Thanksgiving poems. "I Won't Forget" and "Let Us Be Thankful." Members were asked to donate next meeting for a kitchen shower for the church kitchen. 'f he rummage sale will be open this Satuprday, Nov. 22. The Adult Fellowship announced that they will have a Bring and Buy. Auction Dec. 4 at 7:30. Refreshments were served fol lowtng the meeting by Lucile Brown and Pearl Pembrook. -Clare Hippe was a guest for the evening. I 1 J f l 4 II i Lenore Gorsline Circle Meets The Lenore Gorsline Circle of the First Baptist Church, met in the home of Mrs. Joyce Fuzi, Nov. 18. There were 16 attending the meeting, including several new persons. Members worked on White Cross quilt blocks for the eve ning. During Hie business meeting several dates were brought to at tention. They included the Young Peoples banquet, set Dee. 6; and the Christmas partv, Dec. 15. There will be a gift exchange, and it will be held in the church annex. Miss Verna Balzer brought the devotions for the evening, and Mrs. Blanche Speckhart gave the Missionary story on the young people in the Philippines. A special prayer was request ed for a member who is ill. Refreshments were served by Helen Parks and Vivian Burford, at the close of the meeting. R. Martin, who also led the opening I layers and the devotional service. Reports were given on the Ba zaar, Mrs. I'.dith Simmons, candy chairman reported that she still has several cans of the Golden Butter Bits on hand. The Bazaar was considered very successiui. Plans were completed for the annual Parish Dinner to be held Saturday evening, Nov. 20. This dinner honors Bishop Lane W. Barton who will conduct services Sunday morning, Nov. 30. Mrs. Norval Olson is chairman of the committee which, will work with St. Ann's Guild in preparing the dinner. No Refunds Riveria PTA Hears Talk On School Issue The regular meeting of the Riveria PTA was held in tile lunch room, Wednesday evening. Nov. 17. with Mrs. Calvin Vess presiding. Mrs. Henry Hates gave the invoca tion. Mrs. Gladys llibbert led the group in Thanksgiving songs. A financial report was present ed by Mrs. Richard Hamilton with regards to the success of the Mother Goose Carnival. Dean Knight's fifth grade won the room count. Refreshments were served by the lifth grade mothers. Charles A. Reynolds Jr. was introduced by Program Chairman. Mrs. Bud llendrickson. An educa tional and interesting speech was given on the topic "School Prob lems Now and In The Future." Subjects under discussion were the school population in connec tion with the census just com pleted. The age and condition of the various school buildings, desks and equipment were discussed. Tile curriculum and the reor ganization plans and their effect upon the county were explained. A question and answer period followed Charles Reynolds talk.
