THE BEER OF Portland Adds to League Lead by 6 to 1 Victory By United Press Portland bolstered its sagging lead in the Pacific coast league standings to 2V4 games Thursday night by downing San Diego 6 to 1, while Seattle, whose threat to oust the Beavers from top spot has been in dead earnest, was defeated by Sacramento, 5 to 4. San Francisco's grip on third place was loosened a little by the loss of its game to Los Angeles, 3 to 1, and the cellar-dwelling hollywood stars triumphed over Oakland, 5 to 2. Bill Mosser pitched hitless ball for seven and two-thirds innings from the Portland mound, with Dick Gyselman getting the first hit. Bob Boken got the other Pa dre blow. The Beavers nicked San Diego's Jim Brillhart for a single run in the third and fifth and two each in the seventh and ninth. Portland has two games and San Diego one in the series. Sacramento came from behind in the last of the ninth to drive in two runs and beat Seattle. Jeff Landrum's double did the trick. Joe Vivaldi, the Solons' rookie righthander from Long Beach, gave Sacramento its first win of the scries after three defeats. City News In Brief ACCIDENT Automobiles d r i v e n by Sam Harrison and George Bohnenkamp, both of La Grande, collided last night at Ad ams avenue and Elm street as Bohnenkamp was making a left turn. There was no damage, po lice records show. ONE ARRESTED L o r e n L. Royse, La Grande, was arrested by city police last night on charge of disorderly conduct. He has posted $50 bond for appearance in city court Sept. 5. MAN INJURED W. H. Win chester, La Grande, injured his arm last night while riding in an automobile driven by George Chris Kalmbach, also of La Grande. The injury occurred when Kalmbach slowed down for au tomobile pulling off Fir street on to Adams avenue. PRASS FIRE Grass fire at Depot street and V avenue called out city firemen last night.
