Jonathan Wainwright, command er of the Bataan and Corregidor Yank forces. Mr. and Mrs. Schwimmcr, of San Francisco, reported to police that some person had stolen their son's six-year-old Scotty, Duffer, from in front of a restaurant while they were eating. An immediate appeal was broadcast by police and Portland radio stations in an effort to lo cate the stolen dog. Newspapers cooperated with humane society officials in advertising the dog's appearance. Mrs. Sehwimmer said their son, Lt. Charles L. Sehwimmer, left the Scotty with her for safekeep ing until he returned. started in the woodroom where workmen were installing a new conveyor belt. Flames spread quickly to the three-story wooden structure housing the digesting vats. Firemen aided by Camp Adair soldiers, mill workmen and spec tators had the fire underc ontrol within four hours. They suc ceeded in' keeping the flames from the adjacent paper plant and lumber yards. A switch engine pulled two tankers louded with chlorine from danger. Three boxcurs of sul phur were destroyed. England's importation of flow ers from foreign countries was halved between 1032 and 1033 EI 1 The gasoline of the future is here at last! 2 Developed for post-war motoring, it is now being released for civilian consumption as fast as our trucks can get it to the stations. 3 Watch for the sign to go up in your neighborhood. It may take as much as 10 days to make deliveries to outlying localities but many stations close to re fineries will have it immediately. 4. This NEW 76 is far better than pre-war, but it will sell at "regular" prices. 5. TRY IT! Youll get a thrill you've never experienced from gasoline before! Tillamook Fire Jumps Nehalem River Lines PORTLAND, Aug. 20 (UP) Week-long lull on the Tillamook county fire front was broken to day by strong winds which car ried the flames across the Neha lem river line. Additional fighters were rush ed to the scene today to fight the scattered spot fires before they can spread further out of the small trees ond brush country bordering the river. Fighters have been trying to hold the line at the rver, one of the few natural defense barriers in the fire areu, for weeks. Flames were close to Batterson, six miles from the Nehalem bay flatlands. Damage was mainly to rental cabins and not in the town, it was reported. Fire crews, aided by better weather, held the three-county fire down while it smoldered and reburned the 150,000 acres that have been burning since July 11. Other fire fronts are being held, it was reported. Lane county firefighters are battling two blazes, said to be the most serious of the season. A 160-acre fire on quartz creek about 40 miles from the McKen zie area and a 100 acre bluze on Big Baldy in the. Coburg. hills have both been brought under control. Horace J.
