t: 3 '' i 'Miss Marion Nelson Is Complimented at Premarriage Party Miss Marion Nelson was com plimented last evening with n bridal shower when women ol the First Christian church enter tained in the home of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Nelson. The theme of the evening wus a mock 'wedding. The fireplace was decorated with various kinds of flowers. The bride, Mrs. Rob ert Evans, carried a bouquet ol rhubarb leaves and red poppies. Mrs. Fred Yeske played the pari of the bridegroom, Mrs. A. J. Pyle, best man; Mrs. Ray Pres cott, bridesmaid, and Mrs. Clem Wallace dnd Mrs. Lloyd Purdy, flower girls. - The' bride's mother was Miss Annette Johnson and the groom's mother, Mrsi Mildred Holly. Mrs. Nelson, as j the preacher, per formed the ceremony. Mrs. Les ter Courtney, .accompanied by Mrs. Eugene Chnmtterlin, sang her own version' of "I Love You Truly." .V Following the wedding gifts were presented Miss Nelson and refreshments were served. Miss Nelson is the bride-elect cf Robert E. Jordon. The wedding is planned for June 19. Wickard Endorsed For REA Office WASHINGTON, June H (UP) The senate agriculture commit tee by a ll-lo-O vote today ap proved the nomination cf Claude R. Wickard to be rural electri fication administrator.. The committee action came af ter three days of hearings held at the request of rural electri fication coperatives in the middle west and south. Witnesses charged Wickard with "political domination" of REA during his term as secretary of agriculture. The senate is expected to act on the nomination tomorrow. Hughes also of Weiser. All have returned to their homes. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Redhead and son, Bill, who recently loft to make their home in western Oregon, have located in Med ford and have purchased a home there, according to word received by friends and relatives. Also leaving the Grange Hall district to locate in the western part of ihe state is the George Higley family. Mrs. Higley has written to friends that they have pur chased a home in Portland where her husband is employed by th-2 Union Pacific railroad. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jasper re cently had for their guests Mrs. Ella Jasper and daughters, Vina and Gladys, of Meridian, Ida., and Mr. and Mrs. Overhulser, teachers at Bend. Overhulser also is a writer of fiction and while here he collected material for his stories. Mrs. Vernon Sherwood is visit ing her brother, William Owsley and family al Summer Lake, near Lakevicw. Mrs. Don Johnson and daugh ter Randi returned yesterday from a three-week visit in Port land and Seattle. t Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Swind ley and 1 -year-old son, John, are visiting Mrs. Swindley's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Gietlhuber. Swincilcy is on the executive staff of the British admiralty delegation of New York City and Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Critchlow of Pendleton also are spending a tew days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gietlhuber. Gen. Doolittle Says B-29 "Marvelous" WASHINGTON, June 14 (UP) Lt. Gen. James H. Doolittle, commander of the eighth airforce, arrived here early today after flying from Seattle in a B-17 bomber. In Seattle, Doolittle made his first flight in a B-29 Superfort ress. "It's a marvelous airplane arid handles nicely," Doolittle said, after a few minutes at the con trols of the giant ship that dwarf ed tile B-17 the general flew in the first raid on Tokyo in 1942. B-29s arc now hitting Tokyo. Doolittle was commander of the eighth airforce in Europe. He is destined for a Pacific command. Welchko was hon ored Tuesday evening with a dinner and story shower in the. home of Mrs. Ray Anderson. The throe tables were cleverly decor ated with baby buggy cases and bouquets of sweetpeas. After dinner Mrs. Welchko was presented with many lovely gifts and the remainder of the eve ning was spent playing bridge, at which Mrs. John W. Guthrie, Mrs. Clyde Dickey, Mrs. Jesse Rosen baum and Mrs. Welchko won the prizes. College Faculty Member Gets Leave Amanda I., Zabel, associate professor of English lit Eastern Oregon college, litis been granted a sabbatical leave to study for her doctor's degree from Septem ber 16, 1945, through Setember 15, 1946. Miss Zabel has not fully de cided which university she will choose for her doctorate study but is investigating the oppor tunities at several. She has been a member of the staff sinces the college opening in 1929. Her position will be filled by an interim appointment.
