Lower City Tax Rate Indicated By New Budget (Continued from Pago 1) sion of the existing facilUios. It was revealed that the city is desirious of purchasing the lots on Washington street, imme diately behind tho present city building. With this land, (he city would have a site adeeiuato fu tile city's requirements for many years, and when the present building is outgrown, it would be used for a new and larger structure.. Capital Outlays Planned Increases me made in most of the departmental budgets, some of them o substantial amounts, but in several instances the money to cover the increases will come from reserve or sink ing funds and will therefore, not be reflected in the year's taxes. One such item is $15,000 to be taken from the sinking fund for a commuity swimming pool, to which $12,500 additional will be raised to provide this civic im provement in the event man power and materials become available during the year. Similarly, $25,000 is budgeted for improvement and expansion in the water department, inlud ing an increase in the capacity of the Beaver Creek reservoir. In all instances of capital invest ment, the budget items are in cluded on an "if and when" basis, the expenditures to be made provided wartime limita tions on materials, criuipment and supplies are available dur ing the ensuing fiscal year. Street Equipment Provided In the street department bud get $2,300 is set up for new street signs, $8,000 for a tractor, $1 1,000 for a power shovel and $1,455 for tiucks, none of which was car ried in the current year's budget. The street department budget also includes minor wage adjust ments which make the new bud get $2-1,875 higher than that of the previous year.' Many Increases Small Other net increases are shown as follows: general government, $205; city building $120; police de paitment, $1,790; fire department, $2,020; sewer department, $2,000; park department, $445; library, $255; airport, $3,275, the latter including a $0,500 payment on hangars and an increase of $800 in niaiiitoancc costs. The road .department f o r which $15,140 was budgeted dur ing the past year, is given $30, 200 for next year, the entire sum being offset by gas tax levemi.:. c uiity load fund apportiorur ents, and unexpended cash balances. Although the budge I of the water dcpailmont, which is self sustaining and does not require financing through taxation, shows several major items not e-airi"d in the last budget, most of the cost is r j f f s ; t bv economies, mak ing for tin.- coming year $17,070 lower then that fur the l;.st year. Chief among these savings is an item of $30,000 for a sinking fund for equipment, materials and extensions, and a reduction ol SI 7,005 in the amount re ciuired for bond interest and re demption. Among the major items in the water rl'-pal tmi-tlt budget is one of $5.01)0 lor pipe, supplies, etc. Fighter pilots praise the fast, I rgh-i'lymg jet-propelled i'-HO or 'Shooting Star" because its tur bine jet engine requiies no setv iving, uses ki ros ne, a safe fuel, develops take-off power in less than a minute, and has a sini- pi. city of control design.
