Thursday, June 7, 1915 6 Jap Fighter Plane Superiority Held OfShoVt Duration WASHINGTON, June 7 (UP) Sen. Warren' Magnuson, D., Wteh.,-pr2.1ictcd 'today that tho latest Japanese advantage in fighter planes will be of short duration. Magnuson, formerly on the staff of Adm. William F. Halsey, was unperturbed by reports that the Japanese have unveiled now fighter plane which outper formed even th U. S. Corsairs. "That won't last long," Magnu son said in an interview. "What they ve got is u juiced up version of their Zeros. Our job is now to find out what they have sacri ficed in the way of guns and ar mor for the sake of speed and maneuverability." He recalled that the original Zeros were extremely vulnerable because they afforded so little protection to their pilots. "We've still got the maximum in performance and protection that aircraft1 can provide," Mag nuson said. "The difference is that the Japanese fight to die and we fight to live." Magnuson, one of the senate's closest students'" of the Pacifi? war, said he'eohsidered the Chi nese seizure of Foochow far more important than any development to date. City News In Brief Rev. Draft Deferment In Industry to Be Cut For Many WASHINGTON, June 7 (UP) Some 60,000 indusliially - defer red men in the 26 through 29 age group probably will lose their temporary immunity from the draft during August and September, it is indicated' here. The government intev-agency committee on draft deferments is setting up new criteria on which to base occupational defer ments. It is expected that- about 60.0U0 men will fo longer be eligible for deferred status un der the new setup. The additional men who will be made available to the 'armed services will help fill the current militaly quotas of 00,000 induc tees per month, it was said." The tightening of industrial deferments stems from changes since V-E day in the kinds of work considered critical and from the fact that men over 30 are now virtually exempt from draft call. There is no official estimate on how many workers will ,be af fected by the new occupational deferment require men t s, but pome Unformed"-officials estim ated the number ut 'about 00,000. Film Shows Navy Airmen in Action The thrilling s!ory of how men of America's aircraft carriers are doing their part in the war against the Japs is vividly por trayed in the color motion pic ture "The Fighting Lady,'' now showing at the Liberty theater. All of the film was shot under navy direction by cameras on the bomber and fighter planes and from various places on the carrier. Lt. Robert Tiylor explains the action. On the Siime bill is the story of a little girl who is all but abandoned by her parents who are busy with their own careers. It stars little Sharyn Moffett and is titled "My Pal, Wolf."
