Overtime Policy is Set By High Court WASHINGTON, June 5 (UP) The supreme court held toduy that when workers are paid on a piece-time basis, then then overtime must be calculated on that basis too. In a 7 to 2 verdict, it reversed two lower court decisions in lav or of employers who had been charged with violations of the wage-hour act' in payment of overtime. Oregon Motorists To Get 1946 Plates SALEM, Ore., June 5 (UP) Ori gon motorists w ill drive with only one license plate next year, and that on the tear of the auto mobile. Manufacture of Oregon license plates has been resumed for drivers for the first time since 11)42, when it was stopped by lack of metal. About 475,000 of the new plates will he made. The new plates will be of med ium-giey color, with black fig ures. The four-power council, with each country represented by a commander - in - chief who will tuke a turn as head of the coun cils, will transmit its decisions to a 13-division control staff, which will carry them put throughout Germany. A control commission for Aus tria similar to the one created for Germuny is expected to be announced in a (ew weeks. A pro visional civilian government for Austria already has been set up and has been recognized by Rus sia, although the United Stutes and Great Brituin have withheld ecognition, Basic Issue Undetermined The requirements growing out of Germany's unconditional sur render by no means settle such basic issues as the extent to which the nation is to be de-industrialized to prevent future ag gression. They list in detail the disposal of Germany's present war-making equipment and provide for the turning over of nazi leaders In addition, they give the allies complete control over nearly every phase of German life, but the fundamental allied policy to ward the long-range future of the conquered nation remains to be decided under a clause pro viding for such additional con ditions us the big four "deem requisite for future peace and security.' ' Homer D. Bechtel Called By Death Homer D. Bechtel, 61, of Elgin, a retired former who for 57. years was a resident of Union and Wul lowa counties, died Sunday at a local hospital following a short illness. He was born April 15, 1884, in St. Clair county, Mo., and was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Survivors are his widow, Eun ice, of Elgin; three sons, Roy D. und Clarence of Elgin, and Cecil of Portland; three daughters, Clarice Scoubs and Edith John son of Elgin, and Eva Johnson of Wallowa; two brothers, Dan of Porterville, Calif., and Joe of Wallowa; a sister, Stella'Witty of Elgin, and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services will be ate 2 p. m. tomorrow in the Christian church in Elgin with the Rev. Roy Franklin officiating. Inter ment will be in the Elgin come tery. Veterans Propose Military Training On Guard Basis WASHINGTON, June 5 (UP) The Veterans of Foreign Ware suggested a program for peace time compulsory military train ing today that would permit the trainee to live at home. Instead of going to an army camp for a year he would slay with his family, remain In school or in his job, taking weekly drill al the local armory and training for two weeks during tiie summer at a reserve camp. At variance with these views is the American Legion, which rec ommended a program calling for one year of continuous service for all men.
