Mav' 31 (UP) Following recent custom after a few days of market rise Wash ington today circulated rumors that stricter margin controls were in the offing. Simultaneous ly stocks . receded on reduced volume. . Wall Street experts were un willing to concede that the re cession coming on top of the margin rumors was anything but a coincidence. They 'held that the list was entitled to a tech nical' correction at this stage of the rise. Losses generally were small and partly recouped before the close. Recently strong railroad shares had declines of as much as 2V4 points in Santa Fe at the lows. The latter came back part Way. Steels yielded small frac tions on dull trading. Oils also lot a little. Airlines were off as much as IVt points. Utilities were featured by strength in Columbia Gas preferred issues. An increase in the ceiling price of wheat and heavier commercial demand for flour were stimulating factors. Corn was firm and other grains weak before the close. Late Belling by southwestern Interests reversed early strength in the wheat pit. Prices dropped about two cents from early high levels.
