Star Athletes of Navy Ordered To Overseas Duty WASHINGTON, April 6 (UP) The navy is breaking up its all-star athletic teams in this country in a dual move to bolster morale of personnel overseas and to end "adverse criticism" at home, it was learned toduy. The order opens the way for many nationally known stars in navy uniform to be sent overseas, thereby giving servicemen away from home an opportunity to see high class athletic competition. But it rings down the curtain in this country on such outstand ing sports outfits as the Bain bridge, Md., training station foot ball team and the Great Lakes baseball nine couched by Bob Feller of Cleveland Indian fame. In an order to all naval com mands in this country, the navy said it no longer favors "deliber- Uitc concentrations of professional or publicly-known amateur ath letes within the continental United States for the purpose of exploiting their specialties in athletic team competition." The navy said it believed that i the "overall morale of the navy , Is enhanced by the wide disper sal of well-known athletes in routine service with active units. even enrolled as a student. Mad not the Brooklyn college players stumbled into the garment heat they no doubt would have gone on until the season's end working their way through college by throwing basketball games." As Sgt. Johnny Jones sttesses, with cheating overlooked, if not encouraged, by coaches, players gradually reached the point where they believed ill their own invincibility. MEMO TO ADVERTISERS o I N B. C.
