Assault troops of the Kig.'r.ir urr.-.g) neared the city of Comacchio, 18 miles of Ravenna on Italy's east coast, today after seizing almost half of a 15-mile long sand pit between Lake omacchio and the Adri atic., The operation, in which more than 200 enemy troops and an 88-mm gun were captured, was carried out by three Allied forces early yesterday frorn Eighth army positions along the Po Di jjj, Flimaro river. ' While one column pushed up the sand pit, two other forces swung around over the lake and landed behind the German de fenses, i The action by the Eigth army was the first along the long dormant northern Italian front since the Allied troops reached the Po Di.-Primaro, nine miles north of , Ravenna.
