Zimmerman Are Wed Saturday In Church Ceremony Performed at Boise The marriage of Mlsa Alice Mar quardt, for 11 years public health nurse of Union county, and Joseph I. Zimmerman was solemnized In the Presbyterian church at Boise, Satur day evening at 8:00 o'clock. The single ring service was read by Rev. William Crosby Ross, formerly of La Orande, with only Mr. and Mrs. Arch Bacon, close friends, being present and serving them as attendants. The bride was charming in an ashes-of. roses lace dress and her corsage was of Talisman roses and sweet peas. A dinner at the Boise hotel Immediately followed the ceremony In the church. This wedding has greet Interest In La Orande where both Mr. and Mrs . Zimmerman have been before the public for a number of years. Mrs. Zimmerman has been the very effl- clent county nurse having come from her home at Burlington, Iowa, 11 years ago. Her resignation presented to the county court July 1, has been accepted and her successor appointed, but she will continue In the office until August 1 to assist Mlsa Brick. son with her new duties. Mr. Zim merman In the federal employ and has his headquarters In La Orande Mr. and Mrs. Zimmerman have re turned to La Grande and taken up their residence at the Orande Ronde apartments. 135 People Attend Three-I Picnic Sunday The Three-I picnic held yesterday at Riverside Park was one of the suc cessful annual gatherings the Suckers, Hawkeyes and Hooalers have had dur ing the past several years, some 136 people former residents of Illinois, Iowa and Indiana, being present. The dinner was served at 1:16. the basket dinners the guests brought being supplemented with Ice cream and cof fee served by the association. The president. Rev. J. George Wain pre sided during the short program. There was Informal singing with Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Kitchen and Mrs. Walz assisting. Eva Monroe read a poem on "Illinois", and Ray Williams, ac companied by Mlsa Isabel Williams sang "The Bells of 6t. Marys" and Xor an encore "Nothln There were hours for out-of-door amusements and social visiting. The nominating committee, Mrs. l. Den ham. J. H. Blunt and Ed Eckley reported as officers for next year: President, L. P. Day, representing Illinois, vice president, R. A. Wllker aon, and secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Frank Woods. These were unalmously elected. The picnic in 1936 will be on -the second Sunday In August, t " i . , Lucky Dozen Club Picnic Members of the Lucky Dozen club, their husbands and families Joined In a picnic party at Pine Cone Friday with a very large attendance. It was an evening picnic with a social hour or two followed by refreshments In cluding watermelon. Three Societies Meet at Park The three women's organisations of the First Presbyterlsn church the Missionary society, the Bible Search ers and the Home department Joined In an out-of-door meeting Friday af ternoon at Riverside Tars;. At pot luck lunch was served at 1 :00 o'clock and afterwards came an Interesting program which Miss Lula Huron and Mrs. Myrtle Broughton, of the mis sionary society, had prepared. Mrs. J. George Wsln had charge of the dcvotlonals. Mrs, H. J. Rltter re viewed the nationalist movement In China and the missionary president, Mrs. I. O. Bowser, closed with a short talk. Marcia Miller Has Birthday Party Ten friends of Mim Marcia Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mlllor, aaeluted her In properly celebrating her 11th birthday Saturday afternoon. First they were taken -to Pine Cone for a splash and swim In the pool then they returned to Marola's home for refreshments. The guests were Beth Fross, Blllle Batlcy, Jlmmle Sailing, Eugene Alford, Darcla Skiff. Betty and Billy Wagner, Nancy Und sey, Celestlne Cook and Laverne Sar- vis. Marcia received many alee gifts from her friends. Lawn Social Is Financial Success The Norths Ide Improvement club gave a lawn social Saturday after noon at the home of Mrs. O. J. Price, 2406 North Plr. Flowers donated by members of the club and Japanese lanterns overhead helped to make the lawn and grounds an ideal set ting for the tables. A bowl of golden gleam and nasturtiums with pink dahlles centered each table. Miss Ila Mae Andrews had charge of the re freshment and was assisted by Alice Cain, Mrs. Hungerford. Oeorgoanna Lock wood, Delorca Stewart, Evelyn Ballard and Marie Robertson. During the afternoon Miss Andrews sang some vocal numbers and Miss Nadlne Hungerford offered some violin solos. Mrs. W. H. Parkinson playing the accompaniment for both. The. women cleared a substantial sum which Is to be used to finance the coming flower show. FIRE SUNDAY IN GARAGE ON JEFF. AVENUE Cleaning a car with gasoline re sulted In a blaze In the Chrysler gar age at 1444 Jefferuon avenue at 10.23 a. m. Sunday, firemen report. The fire was quickly extinguished before damage of any consequence was done. ACCIDENT ON CLOVER CREEK Attempting1 to pass on the Clover creek road near North Powder last Friday, cars driven by Leo Suydam and C. Waltz, of North Powder, col lided. No one was hurt. Activities of the playground In cluded baseball, volley ball, ping pong, horseshoes, dodge ball, dare base, track and bicycling. Special in struction was also given In dancing, dramatics, hand craft, camp craft, swimming, tennis, hiking and life saving. Contesto were held In baseball, track, ping pong, horaashoes, swim ming and kit flying during the per iod, and miscellaneous activities In cluded camp fire instruction, the pet parade, the water carnival, the dance festivals and two plays. In addition to this, the twilight length) kitten ball teams were sponsored by the playground organization and games were played three nights a week by about ten teams which wera entered In the league. Four games were us ually played each night two each on ; the atadlum and Greenwood field.; The high school playground team won the cnamplonshlp In the twilight league last Friday. In addition to the directors of the playground, much volunteer help was needed to conduct the activities, and the reaponoo to any call for as sistance was always most gratifying, according to Miss Horton. With the conclusion of the first play time which waa not only for children, but provided entertainment for grown-ups as well, the remaining 30 which was not used this year will be used to start a fund which will be added to from time to time as contributions are made, and will be In charge of the corporation, the or ganization of which was recently completed. Members of the corpora tion will have charge of plans for fu ture playgrounds which, following these organization steps, haa now be come a permanent institution of the city of La Orande. PARKER HURT BY .22 BULLET Friends here have received word from Mrs. H. W. Parker, former La Grande resident, who visited here re cently to the effect that upon her arrival at her home at Twin Falls, she found her son, Robert, confined to his bed following the accidental discharge of a .22 rifle, the shot penetrating one arm and side and lodging near the backbone. He had no use of the arm but th-a attending physicians gave assurance that that would come bock to him.
