of a very successful year, and the
opening of a new year expected to
be full of accomplishments.
The lodge also decided to curtail
meetings during the summer. During
this month, one more meeting will
bo held, on the third Thursday. In
July and August meetings will be held
only on th? first Thursday, and In
September, on the first and third
Thursdays.
A feed was enjoyed before adjournment.

beef calf exhibits belonging to mem
bers of the 4 -II club. Among- the 17
entries were some fine fat steers that
made Judging difficult. Arleen and
Rena Choate of Summervllle, the
Blockland boys of Island - City and
Jean Ann. Richards exhibited some
fine Hereford animals. In fact Jean
Ann's Hereford wears a blue ribbon.)
In the absence of Jlmmle Milj, Jay
Breshears of Cove was appointed sup
erintendent of the dairy division,
R. O. Johnson,' county aent from
Canyon City, gave some fine educa
tional Instructions to Ui5 boya and
girls. After Judging the beef calves
In each division he carefully went;
over each calf and gave reasons why
each calf placed where he did.
There is a fine representation of
members of the Future Farmers of
America from Btx Eastern Oregon
chapters and the Smlth-Hughci In
structors who accompanied the boys
are: Otis Dearborn, of Ontario; Rol
lin Schadd, of Halfway; Walter Em
rick, of Imbler; O. A. Thompson, of
Wallowa; E. O. Axtell, of Enterprise; i
and Cecil Griggs, of Union. Five'
classes of etock Jerseys In the dairy ;
divisions; Herefords In the beef class; j
Duroc swine; Hampshire sheep and '.
Percheron horses were used ln the i
stock Judging contest that proved In- !
te resting and Instructive. The Wal-;
Iowa team placed first with Dick Ev- !
ans, high point man; Enterprise, oec- I
ond with McAllister, second point;
and Imbler third. The F. F. A. mem
bers held a meeting at the Union ho
tel in the evening and reports of
work done in each of the chapters
were given. Among the speakers who
gave brief talks to the boys were Herb
Chandler, D. E. Richards and Dan
Clark.
The exhibits In the horse dtvl-ilon
are the best In many years. Ten head
of draft horses belonging to the Pon
dosa Pine company end six to Bert
She! ton are on exhibition. One Bel
gian" horse In the Pondosa exhibit
weighs 2200 pounds and is a fine ani
mal to look at. Jock Hensley of La
Grande has a good-looking team of
Clydesdales and John Peterson, a fine
registered Belgian stallion. In the
light bone class, are some promising
looking animals, Mildred Standley
has a neve saddle horse that makes a
line show anlmul. Gus Levy, of Baker,
has a string of naddle horaea as has
the Conley brothers of Cove.
Tho classes of fat lambs and hogs
sponsored by the Blue Mountain
Livestock;7 Shipping association are
well filled, there being nine pe"8 01
fat lambs and several of hogs. These
wcro judged, hy Clossen. of Portland,
head buyer for Swift and Company.
Among prize winners at the show
was a fine Hereford steer exhibited
by Henry Day of Halfway. F. F. A.
member. Leonard Huffman, of the
Eastern Oregon Meat market, bought
him at a good price.
Donald Ward. Union P. F. A. mem
ber, exhibited a prize winning regis
tered Hampshire sow. and her litter
of ten husky youngsters also won a
blue ribbon. Mm. Joe Johnson, of
Wallowa, also ah F. F. A. member,
took second on a Duroc bow and HtJ
ter of eight pigs. This la th first
year that F. F. A. members have ex
hibited beef 'stuff. Seven Halfway
boys have a fine exhibit of fat Here
fords, 14 in number.
Josephine Fisher, of Allcel, showed
a prize winning ewe yesterday and
today she Is quite proud over a new
baby lamb that arrived at the oho,v
grounds during the night.
Judging of stock was being com
pleted this forenoon with Sherman
Outtridge. of Pralrle City, Judging the
beef cattle and R. O. Johnson, of
Canyon City, the horsea.
Florida citrus growers have found
the repeaf of national prohibition has
increased the sale of limes, which
are used In various drinks.
