La Grande Tuesday consulting with
Mrs. A. T. HlU, regent of Grande
Ronde chapter, D, A. R., on matters
pertaining to the organization. Last
week Mrs. HlU and Mrs. Ada Kiddle,
of island City, were guests of Mrs.
Soule In Baker, going particularly to
do some. Investigating In Mrs. Soule's
excellent genealogical library.

The trap was sprung by Prank
Hamer, a former Tcxaq ranger, B. M.
Gault, a highway patrolman, and Ted
Hlnton and Bob Alcorn, Dallas county
sheriff. Hamer was recently com
missioned as a highway patrolman
for the special purpose of getting hJs
man and, in this case, his gunwo-
men. - Hamer had learned of the,
highways frequented by the pair and
had been watching for weeks.
The bandits' trail was picked up
this morning by Hamer and three
Texas ranger associates In Bossier
Parish, where Barrow was reported to
have relatives residing. They followed
the bandit car to Bienville Parish
where the rangers were joined by
Sheriff Henderson Jordan and a staff
of deputies.
The officers got ahead of the ban
dit car and. lay In wait until Barrow
rah his car Into the ambush.
With the posse, heavily armed, hid
ing In brush along the paved high
way, Barrow's car broke over the
horizon racing at 85 miles an hour.
As the car approached, an officer
yelled "halt."
Barrow and the woman answered
by reaching for their weapons and
they were met by a fusillade from a
dozen guns.
Barrow and his companion had led
officers In a wild chase over half a
dozen states. Frequently they were
cornered but eluded their pursuers
or shot It out. They replenished
their fund toy robbing batiks and
business houses.
. Barrow was regarded ns one of the
nation's most dangerous killers,
shooting at the bat of an eye and
fleeing In fast automobiles.
Bonnie Parker was charged by offi
cers with participation in most of
Borrow's later crimes. Officers said
she was as quick on the trigger as
hep associate and was Just as elusive.
Women's Club At
Union Have Election
UNION (Special) The Women's
club closed their meetings for the
year with a covered-dish luncheon
and social oftornoon. About 45 at
tended the luncheon which was ser
ved on card tables. The club house
wore a festive air with a profusion of
flowers and a marvelous meal was ser
ved by the hostesses Mrs. James
Moore Mrs. Will Campbell, Mrs.
George Hoffman, Mrs. P. M. Littler
and Mrs. T. O. Barnard. During the
short business session a new corps of
officers was elected. Mrs. Beryl Hut
chinson will serve as the club's presi
dent next year; Mrs. Edith Coles, vice
president; Mrs. Henrietta Jacobs, sec
retary; Mrs. Alice Knight, treasurer;
Mrs. Mae Ward, corresponding secre
tary;' and Mrs. Littler as director.
