0 i Friday, May 18, 1931 OCl ETY Local Deiphia Chapter Concludes A Very Interesting- Year Of Study at The Hugh Brady Home With the literature of the late Rnni usance ns the general study topic for the evening, the Delphinn chapter mot lost evening with Mrs. Hugh Brady. 1808 T ;lrd street. This con cluded the study meetings for tho year, but the chapter arranged a din ner meeting for June 7 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Pierce near Hot Lake. At last evening's session, Mrs. C. E. Andersen hud for her topic "Tlic Ideal Courtier," while Mrs. Pierce gave a "Glimpse of Celltrtl." Mrs. Miriam Rettig spoke of "Michael An gelo as a Poet." Miss Hulda Amler iion summarized the Renaissance. Mrs. Fred Slegrist described tlw? "Paris of Villon," and Mrs. E. E. Hurley pre sented Villon, "The Father of French Poetry." Miss Ida McMeekin, Mrs. Brady and Miss Hilda Anthony pre sented In order, Rabelais, the man and his writings. Montaigne, and Thomas Moore and his Eutopla. , Thursday Bridge Club Guests Of Mrs. C. Zimmerman Pink roses, which are the attrac tion In La Grande gardens now, Mrs. Clyde Zimmerman used for her table decorations yesterday when she had for her guests, the Thursday Bridge club, her general color arrangement being pink and white. The luncheon was served at 1:30 o'clock and bridge occupied the succeeding hours, there having been thrae tables. Prizes for scores were received by Mrs. Fred Spneth and Mrs. H. M. Howard. Mrs. Clyde Bunting will be hostess on May 31. Fine Attendance At N.O.W. Mrs. Shadoin ts an or ganizer for the Neighbors of Wood craft and Is In La Grande for the purpose of securing new members for the local circle. She plans to spend seme time In Eastern Oregon. It was announced that the Past Guardian Neighbors club would put on the work at the next meeting which wilt be June 5 and to that meeting all members are urgently in vited as well as all those who belong to circles in other towns but who live here now. The meeting will be held in the I. O. O. F. hall. Refreshments perved by the May committee con cluded Tuesday evening's 'session. Mrs. Birnie Will Present Pupils Mrs. George S. Birnie will present her class of music students In a pub lic recital Monday evening. May 21, in the small ball room of the La Grande hotel. The hour 8:00 o'clock and the public Is invited. Planning' Social For Tuesday A social is being planned by the C. A. C. committee of the M. I. A., for next Tuesday night. May 22, at the small recreation hall, to close the regular class work for the year. The program will Include stunts from each class and will commence at 8 :00 o'clock. Dancing will follow the pro gram with good music having been provided. Wednesday night, being tho first of these, the attendance proved that the members of the lodge have a right attitude toward the good of the or der and a lively interest prevailed throughout. During the business meeting plans were made for a cooked food sale to oe held at a store on Adams avenue this Saturday oa a benefit for the cemetery improvement fund. . Improvement Club Wednesday The new entertainment committee of the Northside Improvement club, with Mrs. Brngg actively In charge, were responsible for a fine program when the club met Wednesday after noon at the 1. D. S. church, with flower discussions provided by that committee, Mrs. O'Neal and Mrs. French. Mrs. Piatt had for her sub ject "Plant and Garden Enemies," and Mrs. McMasters, "Garden Com binations. Mother Price presented "The Bouquet of The Month Roses." Tho final event. In charge of Mrs. Bragg, was an amusing questionnaire on flowers, trees and vegetables. This provoked considerable fun and Mrs. Price received a prize for being able to answer the most questions. The next meeting of the club will bo on the third Wednesday In June. Auxiliary Group Enjoy Meeting The regular meeting of the L. 8. to the B. of L. P. and E. held Wednes day evening in the Eagles holl was presided over by Mrs. Maude Charl ton. The announcement was made that the meeting of the social club which had been postponed, would bo an event of Friday, May 25, at 2:00 o'clock with Mrs. J. K. Charl ton. After lodge, the committee, Mrs. Helen Lano and Mrs. Bessie Harvey served seasonable refreshments. Baptist Women Hear Report The Women's Missionory society of the Baptist church were guests on Wednesday afternoon of Mrs. C. W. Chandler at her home. 2008 Third street. The program was in charge of Mrs. Elmer Skala and Mrs. Wil liam Shade gave a splendid report of the recent state convention which she attended In Portland, bringing much of Its inspiration to the women's so ciety, j Mrs. A. J. Gower Club Hostess Yellow iris and roses formed the decorations Wednesday when Mrs. A. J. Gower entertained one of her clubs, the h. A. L. group. There were ; three tables playing bridge, Mrs. Wal- tcr Lane having the high score, it ! was learned after a few hours play- i lng. and Mrs. George McVcy, second ' high. Mrs. Will McClure was a guest. I Mrs. Gower served a delicious lunch. The club will meet next time on June 6 at the country home of Mrs. C. R. Hibberd. The picnic is to be an event of June 8, at River- sl:Ic park, the supper to be served at 0:30 o'clock. The committee whose responsibility It ts to plan for the affair consists of Mrs. S. A.
