Courtney muffed Johanaen's ground er, Courtney recovered In time, how ever, to toss the ball to Wilson at the plate who tagged Peffley coming in for the first out. La Grande came back In Its half with three scores. Hall' grounded out. Evans went to first when McCbnnell missed a third strike. Evans stole second and was safe at third when Lee, Pondosa- second-baseman bob- bled Wilsons grounder. Evans tallied when Moore smacked a liner to short who muffed It. Nelson struck out and then Cochran singled scoring Wilson and Moore. Pondosa failed to tally In the & ond, but La Grande scored two runs' off Courtney's single, and Hall's and Wilson's doubles, both to deep right new. i With the score 5 to 1 going Into the third Pondosa chased two more markers across the platter, but from then on both" squads were unable to score although both teams 'had the bases bulging In the fifth. - Moore's Catch' Stellar One The outstanding play of the day, by far, was Moore's o hoe -string catch In short left, of Peff ley's apparently cinch Texas-leaguer hit in the seventh frame. Moore came in with the crack of the bat, running full speed, and snared the ball off his shoe-strings in deep shortstop terri tory, then taking a nose dive but coming up with the ball, for the put out. Both Courtney, hurling for La Grande, and Calderwood, pitching for Pondosa, turned In splendid exhibi tions of the pitching are Courtney permitting but five hits. ;'and Calder wood only six. The difference in tho two teams was superior infield play by tho La Grande nine. Next Sunday the La Grande squad travels to Baker to meet tho league' leading Baker squad which has five wins and no losses marked up. ' Joe Palmer, hurler for the Baker squad, pitched a no-hit, no-run game at El gin yesterday, setting the Elglneers down 14 to 0. Box score: La Grande: AB. R. H. PO. A, E.
