Page Seven Over The Valley Personals At Wallowa Mr. find Mrs. Wayne Re a vis, Virgil WalUlnger, Tom, Wallslnger Jr., and Miss Hazel Crawford spent Sunday at Wallowa Lake and also visited with friends and relatives near Jo seph. (let-Together Club 1 Mrs. Claude Beale, of Lone Pine, was the latest hostess to the mem bers of the Get-Together club, of Ladd Canyon last Thursday. Mrs. Prank Rominger and daughter, Mary Lou and Mrs. Alta Wlnburn, all of La Grande were special guests. Mrs. Ada Clark furnished a guessing con test and Mrs. Frank Young's name was drawn to receive the embroidered tea towels. This was followed by a two-course lunch served by Mrs. Beale. Mrs. Ada Clark will entertain tho club In two weeks. 0. E.' Entertain The Christian Endeavorers of Lower Cove recently entertained at an eve ning party In honor of Mrs. Jolsa Clark, of Allcel, who with her twin daughters and her mother, Mrs. George Miller, are leaving soon for Paoadena, Cal., to make their home. Visit Hrother-ln-l-aw Roy and Ernest Bell, of above the Cove, were recently In Walla Walla where they went to see their brother-in-law, Blaine Geer, well known here abouts who Is Berlously 111 of heart trouble. They were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Pat Powers, of Medical Springs, cousins of Mr. Geer. Home From finlem Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Austin, now of La Orande, but for years residents of Ladd Canyon, recently returned from Salem where they visited with their son, Robert Austin and a daughter, Miss Margaret. "Bob" as he 1b familiarly known was married over at Vancouver while the Austin's were there and the family "got In" on a big charivari given for them. The wedding was solemnfrad on April 10. The bride was Miss Dorothy Butterfleld and she formerly lived at both Island City and Lostlne, The bride and groom will make their home at Salem where Bob Is em ployed In a large paper mill. Ill Mrs. Homer Carnes, of near North Powder, Is reported as being critically 111 of the pneumonia. Given Surprise Mrs. Martha Jane -Moss, of the Valeria district, had a birthday Mon day of this week, and fully expected to have all the neighborhood come In to surprise her, as Is a custom In that part of the valley. But the neighbors Btole a march on her and went in Saturday evening Instead. They carried the wherewithal for a community dinner which required a maximum of time to consume. After dinner there were four tables for pinochle and others played fan-tan. Mrs. Moss received a great many nice birthday gifts. Oh yes, we almost forgot the wonderful birthday cake which her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Clara Moss made. It was a decidedly happy occasion. lluve Dinner Together A group of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Dave Hug, of Elgin, gathered at their home Sunday for a potluck dinner and an afternoon of visiting. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Prout, Mrs. Nellie Par sons, James Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Roulet and children, Mrs. Henry Parsons. Stanford Gllkle, Lester Mc Clune. Dinner Ouests Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wright, of the Valeria district were dinner guests Sunday of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Coun aell, of Ladd Canyon. , Open Offices , R. A. Gowen, engineer supervising construction on the Weston -Elgin highway, arrived Tuesday from Port land and opened the Elgin office. It Is expected that work will be started In the near future. Contracts have been let for the highway to within-seven miles of Toll Dote. The last section is programmed, says Mr. Oowen, and will be let this year if funds are made available, William Miller, state highway- maintenance foreman, tried to get through to Toll Date this week. He made 13 miles of the 22, but was held up by snow four feet deep. LADD CANYON PERSONALS The teacher of the Ladd Canyon school. Mrs. Joe Diehl, and scholars recently organized a sewing club. Of ficers have been elected but as yet they have not selected suitable name for It. Miss Enuna Payne was elected president: Elma Ansen, vice president; Miss Lillian McClure, sec retary, and Phyllis counsell, treasur er. A party of young folks of the neighborhood made a trip to Anthony lakes, or rather, they tried to, a week ago Sunday, They drove to wltliia five miles of the lakes where they encountered at least six Inches of snow. They said It was old snow with a light covering of Inewly fallen snow. But they had a nice trip up through the Ladd canyon hills and an en joyable picnlo dinner anyhow. Those in the party were: Miss Frances Fur gason. Miss Lillian McOlure, Mies Thelma McCluro, Lawrence Ooons, Edward Counsell and George McClure. Edward Counsell left early Satur day morning for Medford to visit for a week with his slstor, Mrs, Belle Tucker, and also to bring his mother, Mrs. Mary Counsell, back, who has been visiting there and In Califor nia since December. He was accom panied by Oeo. McClure, who will visit with friends at Grants Pass, near Medford.
