Paire Thre OC I E T Y oooooooooooooooooooooooo Miss Mabel Morton 8oclety Editor Phone: Main 600 Until Noon oooooooooooooooooooooooo Dr. Margaret Ingle, Mrs. J. K. Wright Report State Conference Before Grande Ronde Chapter D. A. R. Members of the Grande Hondo chapter of the Daughters of the Am erican Revolution all felt they had attended the recent Slat annual state conference of the Oregon society after the delegate, Dr. Margarte Ingle, and Mrs. J. K. Wright, state lLbrartan, had completed their reports last eve ning. The recent conference held In Portland was attended by about 150 women from all over the state with the president-general, Mrs. Russell William Magna, as the honored guest. 'Business matters of grave concern to members of the society occupied the major part of the three days the conference was in progress, but so . olal events honoring national and t state officers, principally, were given by several groups and Individuals and were reported as having been very delightful affairs, all of them. While these reports were of Interest chiefly to Daughters, It Is of general Interest locally that Mrs. H. G. Smith, formerly of this city, but now of Salem was elected state custodian, an honor which La Orande women feel was well deserved. Also at the open ing service on Sunday afternoon which waB a very beautiful and very Impressive service in memory of the Daughters who had passed on dur ing the twelve-month, a candle was lighted In memory of Mrs. H. M. Buck, a sister of Mrs. Smith, and also a former La Grande resident and member of the Grande Ronde chap ter. After tho reports, Mrs. C. A. Kopp read a story of her experiences as an alr-traTeller by Mrs. Magna. The president-general was on a tour of late conferences and had visited 14 states within a very few days, doing all of her travelling by airplane, which she considers the safest, the cleanest and the most economical way to travel when time Is a factor, In these days.
