MUSIC ASSEMBLY
HELD AT E.O.N.
"Music talent" waa the theme of
an assembly held at Eastern Oregon
Normal school Tuesday morning. The
entire program waa presented by Nor
mal school students:
Vocal solo, Darcy Me Cool, accom
panied by Glenn Pox, "Dorothy Lee",
"Out of the ,Dusk to You."
Clarinet solo, Grace Scully, accom
panied by Mrs. Roy Mattoon, "Cap
prlclo", by Clappe.
Vocal solo, Eileen Cochrane, ac
companied by Clara Norris, "Mells
ande In the Wood", by Goetz; "When
Bong 1b Sweet," by Saens Souci.
Piano solo, Gleen Pox, "Prelude In
C Sharp Minor," by Rachmaninoff;
"To Spring," by Grieg.
Violin solo, Maellzabeth Cooper,
accompanied by Elinor Hicks, "Sere
nade" by Drdla.

Church School
Classes Enjoy
Evening Dinner
. Members of the high school, college
and Ever-Ready Sunday school classes
of the Christian church, some 135 In
number, gathered In the church base
ment last night for a fellowship
.banquet. Vernon DeLong served as
toastm aster.
The program opened with songa by
a boys' quartet BUUe Hough, Ken
neth Ragain, Alfred Berry, Donald
Hlgglra with Ola Mae Hough at the
piano. Dorothy Hlgglns gave a tons.
"To The Church" and Rev. Paul De
P. Mortlmore responded, .paying tri
bute to youth, which he classified as
the "ltfo of the church." Ruth Smal
ley and Mildred Butcher sang a duet,
and. Garnet Ruckman gave a toast
"To The Sunday School," with Doro
thy Smutz responding. Miss Smutz
touched on the history of the Sun
day school, pointing out It was orig
inated in England In 1780.
Q Carol Price gave a toast "To The
Endeavor" and the response was given
by Muriel Draper, which was followed
by a reading toy Katherine Roberta.
Herbert Evans, superintendent of
schools, was the final speaker, weav
ing his talk around the theme of
physical science's lead over social
science, and the need for a 'balancing.
Local Masons To
Attend District
Session Saturday
A large party of members or the
La Grande Masonic Lodge expect to
attend the district meeting to be held
at Pendleton Saturday afternoon and
evening.
Leslie M. Scctt, grand master of the
grand lodge of Oregon, and his offi
cial staff will be present, together
with grand masters and officers of
Washington 'and Idaho and members
of the Washington lodges within a
radius of 150 miles have also been in
vited. Headquarters for the meeting
will be at the Odd Fellows hall.
The Women have also been invited
to attend, and will be entertained by
the Past Matrons elub of Pendleton
Chapter of Eastern Star, and will
make their headquarters at the Ma
sonic hall.
Arrangements are being made by
J. H. Diehl, worshipful master of the
La Grande lodge, and Oscar Warnock
and a committee consisting of C. M.
Humphreys.. Colon R. Eberhard and
C. P. Hutchens have charge of trans
portation. All who have not already
had transportation provided, are re
quested to get in touch with Mr.
Humphreys at the Masonic hall.
