Pair Three SOCIETY NOTES Francis Brown Auxiliary Enjoys Meeting At the Home Of Mrs. Ella Rynearson Spring flowers Irom the gardens of Mrs. Ella Rynearson decorated her home yesterday when she entertained the Francis Brown auxiliary to the Sons and Daughters of Union County Pioneers at her home. The flowers were artistically arranged about - the rooms and furnished a pretty setting for the event: Mrs. Oeorge Rynearson and Mrs. Claire Scrlber were assistant hostesses. Forty women attended the meeting Including two new members. Mj-s. J. P. Oliver and Mrs. Dora French. Mrs. Jessie Hoak resigned as treas urer, because of 111 health, and Mrs. J. O. Ruckman was appointed to fill the vacancy. Mrs. J. P. Titus was presented with a quilt mnde recently by the auxil iary, and Mrs. Laura Conkey received a pair of pillow cases. The hostesses served refreshments. The next meeting will be held April IB at the home of Mrs. Lynn Chad wlck at Cove, with Mrs. Oeorge Mil ler and Mrs. Jolsa Clark as assistant hostesses. . Mrs. Walter Lane L. A. L. Hostess Mrs. Walter Lane was' hostess to members or the L. A. I, club at the home of Mrs. Oeorge McVey Wed nesday afternoon. Mrs. C. J. Johan sen and Mrs. C. B. Thornburg were guests and the former received the award for high score. Mrs. McVey scored second. An Easter motif was carried out In the bridge table appointments and In the luncheon served late In the afternoon. The club will enjoy a no-hostess luncheon at the Sacajawea Inn In two weeks. Poppy Club Is Entertained The Poppy club was entertained at a charming afternoon party Wed nesday at the home of Mrs. Walter Palmer. Mrs. J. P. Stalcup and Mrs. Clyde Bloom completed two tables for bridge and the former received the guest prize. Mrs. Clarence Green re ceived the prize for high score and Mrs. Charles Graham, consolation. Mrs. c. h. Thompson will entertain the club on April 6. Thelma Heryford Weds R. Bramwell ', ' Miss Thelma Heryford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Heryford, of Cove, and Richard Bramwell,. son of Mr. and Mrs. I. M. Bramwell, were ,: married Thursday at Walla Walla, rWash at the Presbyterian manse. : They make their home in La Grande. Miss Heryford is a graduate of Cove High school, while Mr. Bramwell completed his high school training In La Grande. Will Entertain '. . Parkdale Club Mrs. Frank Woods will entertain the Parkdale club at her home next Wed nesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Laura Rogers will act as assistant hostess. Stitch and Chatter Club Entertained Eight dresses for little girls were completed and a baby quilt tacked Thursday afternoon when 20 mem bers of the Stitch and Chatter club of the American Legion auxiliary met at the home of Mrs. Frank Eames. , At the close of the afternoon Mrs. Eames served refreshments. Mrs. C. E. Shcwmaker will entertain the club on April 19, while the aux iliary will hold Its next regular meet ing on April 11. Mr., Mrs. Mills To Make Home Here Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mills have re turned from Long Beach, Cal., where they were married recently and will make their homo In La Grande. Mrs. Mills was formerly Miss Mildred Brad shaw and is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Bradshaw. So-Ne-He Club Enjoys Party Members of the So-Ne-He club en tertained their husbands at an en joyable pinochle party Wednesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Grant Swalberg. . There were seven tables for -the game. For the women, Mrs. Herman Goertner received prize (or fllgh score and Mrs. Ellen Ash mann, consolation, while W. F. Ash mann made high score for the men and Bill Koeter, low. During the eve venlne Mrs. Goertner held 1000 aces. Guests for the evening were Mr. and j Mrs. Donald McLean and Mr. and j Mrs. Everett Walker. The next regular meeting of the j club will be next Wednesday at 2:00 j o'clock at the home of Mrs. Swal- berg. Northside Club ' Plans Activities An Interesting discussion of flow ers was the feature of the meeting of the Northside Home Improvement club Wednesday afternoon at the Second Ward L. D. S. chapel with 35 members present. Mrs. Guy Price, president, presided. Mrs. Clifford Bragg and Mrs. Leslie Slnden were chosen on the entertain ment committee for April snd May during the buslnew session. Plans also were discussed for the spring flower show, the date of which will rummage sale which will bo held, on Saturday. The flower discussion was present ed by Mrs. John CNeil who talked on growing1 sweet peas; Mrs. Etta Severn, nasturtiums; Mrs. Charlton, care and planting of dahlias; Mrs. French, the diary of a dahlia. A program followed the flower dis cussion and Included a duet, "Your Roses May Have Thorns," by Ju&nlta and Lela Brown, accompanied by Frank Cain; humorous readings by Mrs. Alma Carroll, "I Like a Town About Like This," and "Just Get Be hind a Tree and See Yourself Go By." Donna Mae Morris and Adrlenna See sang a duefe, "Up In the Birches." Mrs. W. Price furnished a reading. "Work In the Home By rt Mere Man." The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 18. Cup Shower Held At Honan Hall Seventy-one cups were added to the cupboards of Honan hall Wednes day afternoon when St. Peter's Guild of the Episcopal church sponsored a cup shower at 2 o'clock at the hall. Mrs. Henry Hill was chairman of the committee in charge, assisted by Mrs. H. W. Guthrie, Mrs. C. J. Edenholm and Mrs. Laura Conkey. The remainder of the afternoon was spent informally. Rev, C. A. Kopp, rector of St. Peter's church, presented . a brief talk. Tea and sandwiches were served. On April 4 the Guild will meet again with Mrs. Charles Bull, Mrs. B. W. Carr, Mrs. Frank Rechlin, Mrs. G. Simmons and Mrs. Conley In charge. ",. -, Home Missionary Society Meets "Workers On The Industrial Roads" was the theme of the lesson present ed Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. A. W. Burnett when the Home Mission ary society of the Methodist church met with Mrs. T. E. Plerson. Mrs. R. F. Tyler presided over the business session and Mrs. W. M. Plerson led th devotions on the subject, "The Emmaus Road." Refreshments were served by Mrs. Plerson, assisted by Mrs. H. Myers. Mrs. W. Plerson will entertain the society on April .18. EAGLES PLAN NYSSA TRIP The complete delegation to attend the Eagles district convention at Nyssa has not been selected although plans for attending the event were completed last night when the lodge met at the hall. The Wednesday and Saturday night dances will be discontinued for a short while but the Monday evening programs will be held, it was decided. A broadcast program will be present ed next Monday night. ELKS TO HAVE AN INITIATION Initiation of a large class of candi dates will be conducted at the meet ing of the B. P. O. Elks next Thurs day evening.
