Bowser will lead the dis cussion of the subject "Recreation." Mabel Silk to Wed Albert Feik The marriage of Mabel Silk and Albert Pelk. which, will be solemnized during April, was announced as a surprise to their friends Friday eve ning at a party at the Felk home. Mrs. J. A. Leak announced the com ing wedding following an evening of games. Refreshments were served. Guests were Mrs. Silk. "Lafeteria" Is Postponed Tlie "Lafeteria," originally planned by the Frultdale Parent Teacher asso ciation for Friday, March 16, has been postponed and in Its place there will be held a St. Patrick's social on Friday evening at 8 o'clock at the school. The program Is in charge of the adults. Luncheon will be served. A small charge will be made and proceeds will go to the Improvement of the school. Both Mr. and Mrs. McKlm arc graduates of the Baker high school. Mr. McKlm attended the University of Oregon, and Is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. Mr. and Mrs. McKlm will visit in California on their wedding trip and upon their return will reside in Baker. W. B.'A.Will Meet Tuesday ' The "better attendance contest", sponsored by the Women's Benefit association, la continuing and side No. 1 will furnish an entertainment feature tomorrow evening when the association meets at the Eagles hall at 8 o'clock. Alice Peterson Gives Recital One of the highlights socially and musically of the season In Walla Walla, was a charming. lecture recital on modern music given by Miss Alice Peterson. 'of the piano department of Whitman Conservatory of Music, Sat urday before the guest day luncheon of the Walla Walla branch of tho American Association of University Women. Miss Peterson Is well known In La Grande having appeared In a number of concerts .here and also In a two-piano recital, last year with her sister, Miss Jennie Peterson, music director at the Eastern Oregon Normal school. Fred E. Kiddle Speaks at Meeting Fred E. Kiddle, president of the afnto tuinntji rllRntiKKpd the sales tax and other measures passed by the last session or the legislature, many afternoon when he addresed the Greenwood Parent Teacher associa tion at the school. "The Postman," a play, was pre sented by the second grade, directed by Mrs. Evelyn Bennett. A group of songs was presented by the same grade, "The Wind", "Spring Song and "Adventure." under the direction of Mrs. Nell Thacker. The organization and work of the "Room of Opportunity", was presented by Mrs. Sadie Lambert, the pupils ex plained making various -objects, and an exhibit of the work done was on display Including baskets, doll fui nlture, mall and letter boxes, step ladders, airplanes, toys, etc. Miss Myrtle Hoyt's room received the attandence prize with 10 parents present. A nominating committee was named which Includes R. A. Wilkerson, Miss Myrtle Hoyt, Mrs. Nell Thacker, Mrs. HISTORICAL SOCIETY TO MEET TUESDAY An interesting program has Been announced for presentation at the meeting of the Union County His torical society Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the Sacajawea Inn. The program will be opened by community singing led by Miss Lydla Hug with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Nell Thacker. A group of musi cal readings will bo given by Beatrice Younge, accompanied by Miss Beth myrl Miller. They aro ."The House With Nobody In It" and "Trees," by Joyce Kilmer, and "Radlence." A group of vocal eolos, or wnicn one Is "Mate O' Mine," by Elliott, will be presented by Mrs. Ray Puller, accompanied by Mrs. W. E. Adler. A recollection of Terry Tuttle, Un ion county's first county school sup erintendent will be furnished by his daughter, Mrs. Joe Ruckman. A recollection of the early '60s. written by Mrs. Lydla Grandy, will be read by Mrs. Sherwood Williams, her daughter. Annual election of officers will bo held.
