Most of the existing fire haz ards in La Grande occur in wiring, Mr. Lindsay pointed out emphatical ly that modem Jobs of wiring, done by men who know their business and then properly inspected, present practically no hazard if the house holder leaves them alone! That's one of the big troubles, he pays. For Instance, a fuse burns out. There are no extras. So John Citizen puts a penny in the branch, circuit and thereby invites a call from the fire department. When he puts a penny in the branch circuit he simply takes away protection in case of an overload of electricity. Without the proper fuse, if his wires are over charged, it usually means a fire, "Yet, many men, who wouldn't think of driving a car without brakes," Mr. Lindsay said, "will go away at night and leave their families asleep In a house with no protection from fire all because of a penny in the branch circuit!"
