Mortimore Gives Address to Student Body At an assembly In commemoration of Washington's birthday, Reverend Morttmore of the Christian church, gave an Interesting address on the characteristics that made George Washington a great man. Some of hi a greatest virtues were: Foil tones: Iri his rules tot conduct he said that he would endeavor to conduct himself In a way offensive to no man. . Reverence:' He said, "Let me always speak of God with reverence." Kindness: Hid kindness won the hearts of the men In the Revolutionary army. Ho loved children and wns often seen : telling them stories and amusing them. Patience: He did not go about without first thinking what would be best to do. The colonies won the Revolutionary war mainly through Washington's patience during the time he was gen eral. Honesty: He did not make rash promises but when he gave his word he kept It, Generosity: Washington gave hla money, his health, and himself to his country. He had sufficient monoy and posi tion to be able to enjoy life at Mount Vernon, but he spent many hard years In the service of his country. When the government no longer had funds with which to pay the soldiers, he paid their salaries out of hla own pocket, not receiving one cent for himself during the whole war. People who wtBh to be successful must have at least a part of these characteristics. Success Is not hand ed out but must be sought aftor through hard work and self-sacrifice.
